William McKinley went through a lot in a lifetime of 58 years old. When he first started his political career, he was elected to the House of Representatives in a heavily Democratic country, even though he was a Republican. People voted for him for his nice personality and was even respected by opposing politicians. Before, McKinley was a soldier in the Civil War. The Civil War alone was an awful experience, but the sadness of his assassination was dreadful. As President McKinley was shaking hands with supporters, Leon Czolgosz was getting ready to do something that will shake America. When McKinley reached out to shake Czolgosz’s hand, he shot two bullets, one deflected...

into a decline. Doctors realized that the president’s pancreas had been partially destroyed. On September 14, 1901 William McKinley died.
William McKinley had a great life from his birth to his death. His nice personality made him a loved politician. William McKinley’s life will always be remembered, and his legacy in the White House won’t be forgotten.

In the book Theodore Roosevelt by Louis Auchincloss, I learned a great deal about the twenty-sixth President of the United States of America. Former President T. Roosevelt made many accomplishments as president, and did not have a high number of scandals. Roosevelt did very well in keeping the peace between the different countries, which earned him many admirers and the coveted Nobel Peace Prize. The author’s purpose for writing Theodore Roosevelt was to tell his readers all about America’s former president, Theodore Roosevelt’s life. Louis Auchincloss did a great job at describing President T. Roosevelt’s life from Teddy’s childhood, his life before presidency, to all of Teddy’s accomplishments as president, and finally to his life after his
On September 6, 1901, Leon F. Czolgosz had murdered McKinley at the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. President McKinley was “celebrating the mighty United State he had build”, not expecting to be close to his death in just a few short hours (Rauchway, pg. 7). McKinley was a conservative president who also was an experienced congressman and governor of Ohio that promised prosperity to the country “McKinley had presented himself to the voters as the embodiment of conservatism, and he looked the part. His stern, square features, topped by the level of a dark brow, had all the expression of a closed door.” (pg.4). His promises of prosperity to the country came true bringing the country out of crisis and bringing it back to life. Rauchway claims that McKinley was an astounding President whose life came to end to soon by the two bullets fired from the man’s gun. Czolgosz knew the consequences of killing the President, but believed he did his duty in doing so. He did not approve of any of McKinley’s policies so he decided to end the President’s life and show America’s vulnerability. Rauchway claims that Czolgosz aim at America was
Opening with the event of McKinley’s shooting and the man who shot him, Rauchway quickly zooms out, distancing us from the scene, reflecting on the political status of the President, who “in the instant before he was shot” had “stood at the peak of hi...
In the fall of 1963 Kennedy’s Administration was preparing campaigns for the election of 1964 in hopes of bringing the fragile Texas Democratic Party closer. The Kennedys headed to Dallas on the morning of November 22, 1963 to attend a scheduled luncheon. On that tragic day President Kennedy was assassinated in a senseless act of violence. Within the next few hours, Vice President Lyndon Johnson was sworn in as president. In the midst of a grieving country, he was given the duty of handling a transition in leadership and presenting an acceptance speech before Congress. LBJ gave his acceptance speech of the U.S. presidency in front of Congress just five short days after John F. Kennedy had been assassinated. Expectations were high but then again no one knew what was to come of LBJ as president. In a time of much confusion throughout the country, it was his responsibility to reassure the American people about the nations’ immediate future and how he would handle the unfinished business and social issues that JFK had begun.
A murder which easily occured and left a footprint in history that many historians and essay writers will enjoy to read about, because the factors leading up to it are so interesting and unique, that it cannot be compared to another assassination. Somehow these 2 men involved both had difficult childhoods which set them on pathways which changed their lives forever. Many are unaware of James Garfield himself and how he was the first left handed president. Being one of four presidents assassinated in office, he had the second shortest term of power behind William Henry Harrison, whose term went from March 4th- April 4th 1841 after dying from pneumonia. James Garfield led many of his time in office and will always be remembered as the 20th president in United States
Theodore Roosevelt stepped into head of office on September 19, 1901 when President William McKinley was assassinated. He was the youngest man to become president. His motto was “speak softly but carry a big stick.” President Roosevelt would come into power offering America the square deal. He would take the power away from the industrialists as he controlled big business from the White House. He would soon become known as a TrustBuster. Roosevelt used American power for American interests and was quoted as saying, “I am an American first and last. “ Although some historians argue that Roosevelt acted like a six-year-old throughout his presidency and that he didn’t think things through, ie “he thought with his hips”, one can admire the tremendous leadership qualities that Teddy Roosevelt had. First, he was a very bold man who graduated magna cum laude from Harvard. The average citizen was aware of what a “positive, warm and tough, authoritative and funny” president that they had leading them. His leadership qualities stemmed from his time as a New York state Assembly man, a deputy sheriff, a ...
In spite of this, Harding was honored like all influential and grandiose people who died, even Abraham Lincoln. Before his death, Harding had a presidency laced with scandal, corruption and incompetency. Harding’s knowledge about the world and his job was severely lacking and was appalling for someone epitomizing an iconic figure in the American culture. According to Samuel Hopkins Adams, author of “The Timely Death of President Harding”, Harding often complained openly about his lack of knowledge. Adams noted, “To any interviewer he said with disarming humility, “I don’t know anything about this European stuff…”. As for finances: “I can’t make a damn thing out of this tax problem”” (Adams 474). Harding was not beneficial to the United States and his scandals branded him as a man who was “war-weary impatient of problems too weighty for the mind in the street, cynically intolerant of a half-wrecked world’s troubles” (Adams 473). Clearly, Harding served very little purpose to the improvement of the United States and one would think his eventual death would be treated with the same apathy. But like all famous people that pass away, Harding was bid a farewell with compliments and statements that would equate him to the American hero. Harding was recognized after his death as “the idol of the man in the street, the apotheosis of the Average American, the exemplar of the triumphant commonplace” (Adams 469). In reality, Harding had a mistress, was friends with America’s greatest crooks, most of which landed in prison, and didn’t have the slightest idea about how to do his job. This suggests that it is a taboo in society to speak ill of the dead and people are willing to say anything to glorify the former life of the deceased whether or not it is
...nted to help by doing anything he can. So, Teddy offered to organize a volunteer division, but the War Department turned him down. Teddy decided to raise awareness and get the people back home in America to get involved with the war efforts. Theodore Roosevelt died in his sleep on January 6, 1919, in his beloved house at Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay, New York.
Soon after the completion of this autobiography, his death approached, and his life would go down in history for years to come because of his bravery during the American Civil War.

...life was touching to all who personally knew him. Though while alive he grieved over his many losses, he still made a remarkable effort to be a good President for the country. Calvin Coolidge kept up a good appearance and favor with the people throughout the beginning of his life, his presidency and until his death. "Coolidge was not a great president, but rather belonged." (Sobel, 238, 418)
Long term effects of the assassination of McKinley was highly important and relevant to the development of America. Theodore Roosevelt was able to draw the power away from Congress and attracted a lot of attention of the American people. President Theodore Roosevelt changed the course of the American history. For example, Theodore addressed his sympathy and condemned the assassin Leon Czolgosz made the public like him even more. Moreover, Roosevelt focused attention on the rich and changed the public’s view. Another long term effect of the McKinley assassination is the laws and acts Roosevelt passed. For example, Theodore Roosevelt passed the Meat Inspection Act and the Pure Food and Drug Act. The met inspection act required federal inspection

Leaders are criticized every day for the things they say or do, also for what they haven’t said or done. Courage is the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficult, dangerous, and painful situations without fear. It takes a special person to be a leader and Theodore Roosevelt was a person of courage he had thick skin in more ways than one. On October 12, 1912 Roosevelt was campaigning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin a man standing in the crowd aiming a gun to his head, pulled the trigger hitting Roosevelt in the right chest. At first he didn’t realize he had been shot until noticing a hole in his overcoat. He checked under his coat his fingers were covered in blood. Fortunately, the bullet struck his case for his glasses and the copy of his speech, he refused to go to the hospital until he was done giving an 80 minute speech. As he was finishing up told the crowd, “It takes more than one bullet to kill a Bull Moose”. Theodore Roosevelt stood the test of courage that day in
Theodore Roosevelt was one of the greatest Presidents in United States history because of his progressive changes to our country. Every President had an impact on this country but Theodore Roosevelt had a major impact. His actions as President helped America become the wonderful country it is today.
