In the controversy surrounding Elon Musk’s supersonic train Hyperloop One, Samuel Staley writes about his opinion on the matter. The Hyperloop is discussed as a controversy based on its safety issues, futuristic design and doubt. In his article Stately disagrees that the hyperloop will be around in the near future like Musk claims, but states that it could happen in the future. Samuel Staley Has a Ph.D in public administration with concentrations in urban planning and public finance from Ohio State University. He is currently a senior research fellow at Florida State University. In the beginning of his article, Staley first describes the technology commenting that it would move passengers “exceptionally fast,” and then immediately makes the new invention seem more frivolous by stating, “It all sounds pretty cool and very space age. (jetsons, anyone?)” By comparing it to the jetsons, he's inferring that this new mode of transportation is unrealistic, and way ahead of our time. Additionally, the placement of this quote is separated from the rest of the text. Along with its syntax, it creates emphasis that surrounds it.
