For this essay I decided to do an activity with the class. This class activity was to show the class that you can find the simplest things and turn them into whatever you want. It was more than a poetry lesson. It was a life lesson. For this assignment, I decided to teach the class about found poems. To create a found poem, you take words or phrases from a source like an article to create a poem. Found poems are a way to find words that speak or stand out to you and arrange them in a way that flows. My goal was for the class to be able to express themselves in a way where they did not know they were. For example, when I first looked into found poems I did not think that these poems spoke with my inner self. However, even though words are already there on the page what makes them you and your …show more content…
Poetry is a great way to express yourself and also sometimes vent. My hope through this exercise was to show even just one student that they can write poems even if they think they cannot. Found poems are an easy way to demonstrate how you are feeling even if the words are already on the page. The words may already be there, but the thoughts were not. The thoughts are original and all yours. Using this exercise to demonstrate that to the class was my goal. Poetry is cool and I hope I portrayed that there are many different kinds than just simple haikus. Reflecting on this project, I noticed self growth and I hope someone is our class experienced the same thing. Throughout the process of creating this presentation it made me realize that so many different things can be represented from one simple thing. As cliché as it sounds this type of poem has broadened how I think about life and made me realize that I should not overlook the little things because in the end they have the most
,“Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquillity" as William Wordsworth, the English Romantic poet, stated. Poetry is a way to express vast emotions and feelings in a way which is unique to the poet. Poetry uses forms and conventions to suggest differential interpretation to words, or to evoke emotive responses.

Poetry is a form of literature that uses aesthetic and rhythmic qualities; it is solely used to evoke emotive feelings in the reader in which to convey a message or story. This form of literature has a long history dating back thousands of years and is considered a literacy art form as it uses forms and conventions to evoke differentiating interpretations of words, though the use of poetic devices. Devices such as assonance, figurative language, alliteration, onomatopoeia and rhythm are sometimes used to achieve a musical and memorable aspect to the poem. Poems are usually written based on the past experiences of the poet and are greatly influenced by the writer’s morals values and beliefs. Poetry regularly demonstrates and emphasises on the
Poetry has a way of making us feel every range of emotion, in some cases better than other forms of entertainment. Unlike a novel, which gives a wide field of vision on any subject, poems have a more focused look mostly on the raw emotion of any one topic. Understanding poetry is an art onto itself, to be able to peel back the words and feel the emotions within them is truly its own work. Harder yet is the ability to dissect and explain these ideas to another person (in this case through an essay)and have them feel and see the poem and the topic it brings to light in the same way that you do. The poem that we will explore is powerful and thought provoking, because it brings the ugly subject of oppression to the front of your mind and forces you to engage in a conversation that you have no control over. It makes you feel hopeless and angry at the same time. In the poem Unwanted by Edward Field we are going to explore the parts of the poem but mainly we will
Poetry is often created by an author’s need to escape the logical, as well as expressing feelings and other expressions in a tight, condensed manner. Hundreds of poets have impacted society throughout history through phenomenal poetry that, even with dark tones can be emotionally moving.
Yes, learning that I could truly enjoy poetry was an amazing, but also, a highly involved discussion. One I would rather focus on at another time. I would, though, like to elaborate on the profound similarity I felt in with the feeling of the narrator.
The poems make for a simple addition to the narrative and allows for a much more meaningful experience for a reader and makes for a much more engrossing story, thus adding to the experience as a whole.
In today’s modern view, poetry has become more than just paragraphs that rhyme at the end of each sentence. If the reader has an open mind and the ability to read in between the lines, they discover more than they have bargained for. Some poems might have stories of suffering or abuse, while others contain happy times and great joy. Regardless of what the poems contains, all poems display an expression. That very moment when the writer begins his mental journey with that pen and paper is where all feelings are let out. As poetry is continues to be written, the reader begins to see patterns within each poem. On the other hand, poems have nothing at all in common with one another. A good example of this is in two poems by a famous writer by the name of Langston Hughes. A well-known writer that still gets credit today for pomes like “ Theme for English B” and “Let American be American Again.”
"Poetry is the revelation of a feeling that the poet believes to be interior and personal [but] which the reader recognizes as his own." (Salvatore Quasimodo). There is something about the human spirit that causes us to rejoice in shared experience. We can connect on a deep level with our fellow man when we believe that somehow someone else understands us as they relate their own joys and hardships; and perhaps nowhere better is this relationship expressed than in that of the poet and his reader. For the current assignment I had the privilege (and challenge) of writing an imitation of William Shakespeare’s "Sonnet 87". This poem touched a place in my heart because I have actually given this sonnet to someone before as it then communicated my thoughts and feelings far better than I could. For this reason, Sonnet 87 was an easy choice for this project, although not quite so easy an undertaking as I endeavored to match Shakespeare’s structure and bring out his themes through similar word choice.
To convey this thought I believed the most logical way for this to be shown is a set of word pairs; with each one relating the last word to the beginning word of the next pair. Ending with an eventual tie from the last word of the poem to the very beginning; this builds up an internal cycle within the poem itself, thus, reflecting the overall theme of the poem. The poem itself exists and thrives on repetition, for without it the poem itself could not have the tying of words, which forms the literal and psychological meaning
The poem I have chosen to focus on is “I was Born into a World” by James Franco. This poem focuses on how humans have successfully changed the world we are living in for the worse. Franco describes how most aspects of his life that he has always thought of as being definite are now starting to disappear in front of his eyes. The way that humans have treated our planet is ultimately resulting in the downfall of its diversity and its beauty. This position that Franco holds is something that I believe both Henry David Thoreau, and David Haskell would agree with.
When reading or listening to poetry, the main objective for me is to feel moved. Happiness, longing, sadness are some of the feelings that can be achieved just by listening to others’ words. It is within these words that creates another world, or separates us from our own. Words all have a certain kind of attachment to them, so if used properly an author can stimulate a reader beyond belief.
I have designed the poem in such a way that it is simple to read (as the last two are rhyming poems) and used language with strong emotional connection as that’s the surest way to attract an audience. I’m hoping the poem will evoke different emotions like sadness and the desire to do more to change the world, I have done this by appealing to my audience through the language I have
One of the themes in our class the whole year was the question of does poetry matter, and if so why does it matter. Poetry provides answers to these questions through its link with mental disorders and its use as a tool to be used in therapeutic settings to help healing to occur. Poetry over other forms of communication lends itself to this use by having the ability to leave things unsaid in order to be an effective therapeutic device for those who have experienced trauma. Poetry can make it easier for an individual to cope with a traumatic incident by providing them a medium to express their emotions and ideas. Poems can be simple and are able to, unlike other forms of communication, convey meaning in a very little amount of words.
Even though poetry is still taught in classes, students will only view it as a required subject. A majority of students do not find poetry interesting just from investigating on their own. However, when they are learning it in a classroom setting with their peers, they may have more enthusiasm about the topic. Yet, after these students learn about the influence that poetry has brought to our society, they are still inclined to explore their own writing style. There is nothing wrong with this, but this proves that poetry has strayed away from its actual literature and the value it
