A Meteor will Strike the Earth and Destroy All Life Forms
“With millions and millions of meteors hurtling around in our
solar system, there’s always a chance that one could hit Earth at
any moment. But what would be the consequences and how would
the Earth be affected if one does happen to hit? If an object from
space hit the sea, a huge tidal wave would be formed, hundreds of
meters high, which would leave most of the world under water for a
period of time, destroying and killing everything in it’s way. This
would have a catastrophic effect on the Earth, as most people
would be killed, and leaving countries powerless, unable to do
anything. Crops would also be destroyed, starvation would kill all
of the survivors, homes would be washed away leaving no shelters,
and without hospitals or medication disease would spread quickly
killing even more people. As it can be seen, the effects of a
meteorite hitting the sea would only cause a temporary, yet
catastrophic flooding. Though a direct impact on the ice caps
could cause a larger scale of destruction. The caps would melt,
increasing the sea level a few hundred meters high. On the other
hand, if an object from space hit land, it would cause a huge
amount of dust and dirt to be thrown into the atmosphere. This
dust would stay in the atmosphere for many years and would block
out the sun, causing the Earth to fall into a darkness, as well as
leaving many consequences on the planet. Crops would fail due to
the lack of light, which would cause massive starvation and death.
It would be difficult to breathe without special masks to filter out
the dust. With no sunlight or heat, being able to penetrate the
atmosphere, the overall world temperature would fall dramatically,
causing a possible ice age to occur.” - “Death in June” (Discover;
page 16). With all the facts and governmental resource, there is a
good chance that a meteor could hit the earth at any moment
causing the world to end!
Over the millions of years that Earth has existed, there have
been billions of meteors that hit, but of all the ones that hit,
scientists concluded that they were not Earth threatening. The
most recent meteor that struck Earth, that caused serious damage,
was on the morning on June 30, 1908 in Siberia. When it hit, it had
the force of a 20-megaton nuclear bomb. The collision caused

more would get killed once in every 1,000,000 years due to a
meteor. Just to warn you, there hasn’t been a major strike that
killed that many people or left serious damage to Earth in a few
million years. The last time a meteor caused great damage was in
prehistoric time when a meteor weighting about 132,000 pounds
landed in Southwest Africa. That meteor is the biggest one that
scientists ever found on Earth. Sadly for us though, there are
millions of meteors that are hundreds of times bigger then the one
that hit in Southwest Africa. Just imagine the damage that could
occur if one does hit!
In conclusion, a meteor will hit the Earth in the near future
destroying the human race and every other form of life on Earth.
It probably won’t happen in the next ten years, but maybe
somewhere between the next hundred to thousand years. There
have been many meteors that have struck the Earth’s surface, and
there’s still millions of huge ones out there. Probably the only good
news regarding a meteor hitting the Earth, is that both the
Government and NASA are working on many ideas to prevent it
from happening.
The Fredonia Earthquake that took place in Fredonia, Arizona on July 21st, 1959 was the largest earthquake to ever strike the state and it triggered a rockslide at Mather Point in the Grand Canyon.
The first atomic bomb was not tested at all. It was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945 killing over 80,000 people and almost completely leveling the entire city. It destroyed more than 4 square miles, or 60% of the city. The flash of the blast was so intense it discolored the pavement and left imprints on the ground cast by the shadows of building and people.

Friendships is a distinctively personal relationship that is grounded in a concern on the role of each individual for the benefit of the other, for other’s sake, which involves some degree of intimacy. Aristotle evaluates the question of whether friendships should or should not be broken off when the other individual changes a sense of personality. Friendship is impossible when there is too great a gap between people and often two friends will grow apart if one becomes more virtuous than the other. However, Aristotle describes in the Nicomachean Ethics three ideas to maintain a friendship. Aristotle says friendships should be useful, receive goodness, and make of itself pleasant for a virtuous life.
I’ve always wondered how the human race will go extinct. I’m not a survivalist or have a cabin in the middle of nowhere with canned food that will last me the next five years. I don’t spend hours pondering this question or losing sleep, but I am simply interested in this puzzle. The answer to this question can have numerous answers, but no one knows for certain how it will happen. The discussion about how the world will end would lead me to present this topic at a UVA Flash Seminar if given the opportunity.
Aristotle first explains what all entail friendship. That it is a feeling similar to that of necessity and a good overall pleasure-filled feeling, though some like me may disagree on this. Friendship is that which consists of a given mutual feelings towards one another. These feelings would consist of goodwill. Then Aristotle continues on to the three kinds of friendship. The first kind of friendship is that being one based on utility. At this point this is where both people coming together would gain some sort of benefit from one another. The second kind of friendship is one that is based on pleasure. This is where both people
Halley’s comet put on bright shows for the planet Earth ever since 204 BC, maybe even 1059 BC. Its most famous appearance was in 1066 AD, right before the battle of Hastings. It was named after Edmund Halley, who found out its orbit. He predicted that the appearances in 1531 and 1607 were the same comet that made a 76-year orbit. Halley died in 1742, never to see if his prediction should come true, which it did in 1758.
Patients who are diagnosed with a mental illness, particularly a serious mental illness, are at risk for disparities in treatment of other medical, non-psychiatric, conditions (Li, et al., 2011). Thornicroft, Rose, & Hassam (2007) stated that much of the general population has a certain ignorance regarding mental illness and tend to make judgments against those who have been diagnosed with mental illness. A social stigma has been placed on those individuals who have been diagnosed with a mental illness, particularly a serious mental illness, which has been defined as those that fall on the schizophrenia spectrum or some type of mood disorder classified as bipolar disorder or major depressive disorder (Mitchell, Malone, & Doebbeling, 2009). It is the opinion of this author that the carry over of this stigma has extended to health care and the way that mentally ill patients are treated in various clinical settings. Further, this author believes that those with a documented mental illness do not receive the same quality of care that those without a documented mental illness do.
“People who are mentally ill are completely incompetent and are at fault for having the illness”, “The mentally ill are severely dangerous”, “Someone who has a mental illness is childlike and could no way hold down a job or take care of themselves”. These are just a few of the stereotypes and beliefs held by those who stigmatize people that suffer from a mental illness. The issue of stigmatization has become a factor that can severely affect the overall quality of life of those labeled with a mental disorder. This has led some to believe, particularly labeling theorists, that a psychiatric label does more harm than good. However, due to treatment such as psychotherapy and drug therapy available to those who receive a psychiatric diagnosis,
Stigma deprives people with mental illness from participating fully in society. The negative attitudes that people have greatly affect not only the lives of mentally ill people but their recovery as well. Most scientists agree that stigma doesn’t just emerge during adulthood. These stereotypes are perpetuated from childhood. Children gain their knowledge and understanding of mental illnesses in many ways. Scientists agree that one of the most significant ways is through media.

Mental health is a topic that most people find uncomfortable or difficult to understand. It’s one that contains a lot of controversy. Mental illness is a rising problem in the United States, yet there are groups of people who don’t even believe it’s a real issue. Additionally, mental illness isn’t taken as seriously in this country as other diseases. The legitimacy of the issue is left up to debate while millions of victims are left untreated and vulnerable. Stereotypes also have quite an effect on the issue. They have become such a staple in our society and stigma surrounding it has become quite negative. Those with mental illness are seen as broken, insane, damaged, etc. Many believe victims of mental illness are only doing it for attention.
Ile de la Cite is at the heart of Paris and has many famous and sentimental places. The focal point of the island is the Notre-Dame Cathedral. Some other places on the island are Conciergerie, Square Jean XXIII, and Bertie's CupCakery. Throughout the time it has stayed an important military and political center. Ile de la Cité is very organized and well cared for, so it is considered prime real estate. Because it is a popular tourist and residential place this island has many bridges.
If the extinguishment, for example of converting debt to stock, is determined to not be a capital transaction then the gain or loss is calculated by deducting the outstanding debt from net carrying value of the debt. “SFAS No. 4, effective until 2002, required that gains/losses from early debt retirements be reported as extraordinary items below the line, regardless of whether they were unusual or infrequent.” SFAS No. 145, issued on April 2002 and effective to this day, specifies that early extinguishment of debt resulting in gains or losses should only be classified as an extraordinary item if they are both unusual and
