I shouldered my bag and also the burden of my families’ expectation for me to do well, as I said my last goodbyes to my beloved family and began my long and arduous journey to what was about to become my home “Australia”. I took one last look back at my family all 9 of them waving me goodbyes and I stepped through the rusted gate and out onto the street. I slowly trudged down the street already missing my family and longing not to go but my mother and father always wanted a good life for me and Australia was my one opportunity for this. Just thinking about all of the good memories I have had in my 14 years in Ithaca brings tears to my eyes as they start to spill over and down my cheeks. I have been walking for about 2 hours and the sun is beginning to rise and the grass is beginning to dry up.
