According to Joseph Campbell, “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” Everyone imagines heroes differently. Heroes do not always have to have supernatural abilities. They can simply be regular people who make a difference in someone’s life. Peeta, from the Hunger Games Trilogy, is a hero in his own way. Peeta was just a regular young man until he was forced to go into the arena and fight until the death on live television. Peeta did not know the effect he was going to have. Peeta gave people hope and faith. Peeta did not try to become a hero, but the choices he made are what led him to be known as a hero. Peeta was born and raised in District 12, which specialized in mining. Peeta was the son of a baker. Peeta was stocky build and had a medium height. When Peeta was a child, he saw Katniss Everdeen for the first time at school. He immediately had a crush on her. Peeta had many differ skills. Thehungergames.wikia.com states that Peeta has five main skills: baking, painting, speaking, camouflage and strength. Since Peeta was the son of a baker, he was very fond of baking. That was where his painting abilities came from. Peeta would help his parents decorate cakes and other pastries. Peeta, also, had great speaking skills. He could always get people to like him and make them feel at ease. He was good at using nature around him to camouflage him. One time in the arena, he painted himself to blend in with some leaves so that no one around would see him. Peeta, who placed 2nd place in a District 12 wrestling match, was strong from working in the bakery with his parents. One can see from this article that Peeta has a lot of different skills. Peeta took all of his skills used them to protec... ... middle of paper ... ...the woods Rue was stabbed in the stomach. When Peeta and Katniss got to District 11, Peeta made a speech to Rue’s family then offered her family a share of his earning each year. That was something that had never been done before. He felt the need to give them the money because she was too young to have died but also because she was Katniss’s ally. Everything Peeta did was for Katniss. According to Kendra Cherry, “people who rush in to help others in the face of danger and adversity do so because they genuinely care about the safety and well-being of other people” (2). Peeta could always see the bigger picture. Peeta knew that Katniss could make a different and could bring the Capitol down. He was willing to do anything it took for Katniss, including die for her. He never compromised who he was in the games. Heroes are people who act with dignity under pressure.
What is a hero? A hero can be classified as a number of things. A hero can be a person who in the opinions of others has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. Ervin Staub, a holocaust survivor from Hungary and as scholar on altruistic behavior, has written, "Goodness like evil often begins in small steps. Heroes evolve; they aren't born. Very often the rescuers make only a small commitment at the start, to hide someone for a day or two. But once they had taken that step, they begin to see themselves differently, as someone who helps. What starts as mere willingness becomes intense involvement." The business man, Oskar Schindler, demonstrated a powerful example
Also Katniss, Peeta, and Gale. Katniss and Gale seem to really like and care for each other in the beginning. However, as Katniss gets to know Peeta and she truly finds out he had already liked her, from their past, she starts to like him as well. Toward the end when Katniss and Peeta are in the cave, Gale sees them in the game as Katniss starts getting feelings towards Peeta because it didn’t work out between Katniss and Gale. In the same way as when Romeo cries over Rosaline, thinking Rosaline liked him but Romeo ends up getting heartbroken.
One defining characteristic of every hero is that she thinks of others before herself. Many people, when called upon to name the heroes in their lives, will mention a parent or teacher who clearly put the needs of her children, above their own. When someone acts proves he cares more about those around him than he does even about his own life, he is considered a hero. Johnny Appleseed sacrificed many things in order to help other, the same applies to us.
When you take them together, however, you discover the complicated and unique individual that is Jay Gatsby. One of the traits of Gatsby that makes him truly great is his remarkable capacity for hope. He has faith that what he desires will come to him if he works hard enough. He does not comprehend the cruelty and danger that is the rest of the world. Gatsby, while a man of questionable morals, is as wide-eyed and innocent as a small child in his views of the world.
The Hunger Games are one of the most emotional, viscous and cruel books I’ve read before. But both heroes Katniss and Peeta have survived to live the next day. They are both winners and Katniss lives to feed her family once more. It was a fantastic book of amazing features, characters, themes and creativity.
A hero is somebody who commits an act of remarkably bravery or who has shown an admirable quality such as great courage or strength of character. (Encarta, 2009) Joseph Campbell has come up with eight of his own characteristics of a hero. Joseph Campbell is known as a scholar of mythology. There are several people in our times that are considered a hero. Whether, these heroes are fictional or nonfiction, they all portray some kind of heroic abilities.
Dictionaries’ definitions of the word hero are exceedingly vague. A standard dictionary limits the definition of a hero to, “a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities” (Dictionary.com). Heroes are people, not just men, who are generous, courageous, and take every event as part of the whole stream of life rather than as a critical moment. Humanity, endurance, and perseverance are other critical characteristics of a deserving candidate for such a title.
A hero is someone who is admired for their qualities, someone who can get through arduous circumstances. In the novel, The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins demonstrates the protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, as a hero. This is evident as she displays courage and determination.
Rue and Katniss are allies, and when they are separated Katniss hears Rue screaming for so she runs screaming for her. Katniss finds Rue and helps her get out the trap she was in, but while she was doing that she gets a spear thrown at her causing her death. While she was dying Katniss comforts her with a song that causes the effect to be sadder due to the slow song. She then covers Rue with daises from a field after her death. When Katniss comforts Rue she was using feminine characteristics, which The Capitol wanted while she was not in the games. However, when she in the games they expected her to with a more masculine approach to everything; therefore, not showing emotions to events that would usually cause emotion. This appealed to pathos by showing the various emotions it caused. The Capitol was unfair to Katniss by wanting her to act in a different manner while she was in the games from when she was in The

According to Webster’s dictionary a definition for a hero is “a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent” (Dictionary). The thing with heroes is that they are not all mythological or legendary figures; in fact, heroes can be almost anyone that hold our admiration towards them for whatever reason. Any person can be deemed a hero from the random person seen walking across the street to one of your relative, so eloquently it is there journey that person goes through that makes them become the hero. In Joseph Campbell’s book Hero with a Thousand Faces to be a hero you have to follow along the steps that Joseph Campbell created called Mystic Hero’s Journey.
