Basketball Game
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. My alarm sounds waking me up. I roll over to look at the clock on the nightstand beside my bed. 6:30 A.M. brightly shines across the screen. The sun is just peeking through my bedroom window, shining perfectly in on me telling me it’s time to get up. I drug myself out of bed to start my usual morning routine; brush my teeth, shower and get ready for the day. As the cold water splashes against my body when I step into the shower, waking me up completely, my thoughts are already on the game tonight.
I listen to a little bit of my favorite tunes while I’m getting ready to help ease my nerves. Its only 7:30 in the morning and my nerves are already racked higher than ever. My day at school seems to go on slower than it usually does. I can’t concentrate in any class. All that I have on my mind is the game. Playing different scenarios through my head, figuring out what we need to do to beat the Redmen tonight. Tonight could be the last chance the seniors get to wear the Falcon basketball jersey ever, the last time we all play together this season.
I can tell that I am not the only player whose nerves have completely taken over their thoughts throughout the day. The bell rings at 3:14 P.M. Four more hours until tip off. We are lucky enough to have home court advantage, hosting the first round of Class B, District 5 girls’ basketball tonight. Walking into the locker room with my teammates my stomach starts doing flips over and over again. The atmosphere around us tells me everyone is feeling the same
That is just what I did. So, an hour passed and it was finally time to start getting ready to play. We walked down to the field, and the other team was warming up. When I saw them; I just knew we could win.
As more of my teammates began to show up, I recognized most of them. However, I learned later that if I went on to play in the Spring, this would not be the same exact team I would play with. With only twenty minutes until we began,I put on all of my gear and my dad gave me a thorough warm up. Time seemed to fly by, and before I knew it, everyone was gathered together as positions were being assigned. I was originally overwhelmed with excitement, but as the game drew closer, the joy I had felt was replaced with anxiety. The lacrosse game taking place before ours ended and we entered and took our place on our bench. I recognized the opposing team’s jerseys quickly and identified them as a travel team from our area. Taking one final breath, I rushed into the lacrosse net enjoying my bird’s eye view, unsure of what was to
To begin, almost any athlete in the world today experiences pre-game jitters. These can be thoughts, hallucinations, or other things that can play with your mind and bring yourself into a state of depression. According to Driven: How Human Nature Shapes Our Choices by Paul R. Lawrence and Nitin Nohria, Lawrence describes pre-game jitters as “a combination of nerves, anticipation, adrenaline and excitement experienced by athletes all over the world. Some people experience this type of anxiety so strongly they are nearly unable to play (Lawrence 189). Early in his book, Lawrence identifies that pre-game jitters are in fact a humongous problem...
So I slept great and I feel great. Its an away game at Saint Francis so that means it 's dress up day. I dress up nice so I look sharp, and go to school. School felt like an eternity my classes felt like they went from an hour to two hours long. I could not pay attention no matter how hard I tried. Finally lunch time comes around and that
Friday night rolled around, it was the game we had all been working so hard for. Knowing we were seniors, we knew it would be the end of the journey.
As I looked at the scoreboard all I was focusing on was the running clock…25...24...23...22... "One last play and this things over" I said to my teammates in the huddle. "The easiest play in all of football baby!" RJ exclaimed to me. 18…17…16...15 I ran up to the line, a sigh over relief came over me. I knew I did it again. "HIKE!" And all I had to do was take a knee. 12... 10.... 8... 6...4...2...1. Game over, 55-49. In my head all I could think about was the MVP of the game: ME.
...0 Greatest Player In NBA History.Julius Erving who is also one of the Legends in the NBA history has called him the greatest basketball player of all time.
Times like those create the happiest times for me. Basketball brings a great deal of joy to my body. I relish in opening my gym bag. The wrench of hot, sudoric Shoes brushes against your nose and for a moment, only a moment
We didn 't play the way we wanted. Even though we struggled, we still did some things right. If we just focus on the things we did well like; boxing out, playing tough defense, and rebounding, we can work around those things and build up the things that needed to be worked on. I know that we can step up and play at a higher level. We just have to make some fundamental changes and work on some things in practice and I think that it will help in our next game. We can hold on to this loss for the night but when you come to practice tomorrow we aren 't going to hang on to this feeling we need to shake it off and start to prepare for our next game. We just need to use this game as an opportunity to see what we need to work on and build off of that. Once we improve what we need to, I think we can get to the level of success we want.”
11:09 p.m. -It isn't any night out of the ordinary. It's basically the same as every other Sunday night. The parties are all over, all the students are back and I know, most, like myself are wishing they hadn't gone out that night when homework was calling their name or wished they had come in earlier last night when their eyes were heavy, but their friends had convinced them otherwise. This is a lesson in procrastination. Mere hours are left before our first class begins, yet the televisions are still glowing, the stereos are still blasting an incessant flow of music at obnoxious levels and people are still streaming by my open door. Girls giggle as they talk of Johnny or Alex or Jimmy or what's his name and every couple minutes I catch the tail end of a meaningless conversation that distracts me from whatever it is I'm trying to accomplish.
"C'mon, Chris, you get in the shower first," Taylor ordered from the other bed. "You're already up." Chris conceded and worked his way to the shower. Everyone in the room knew it too, due to his grunting and whining under his breath. Soon enough he was out of the shower and so were Taylor, Anders, and I. We ate breakfast with the rest of the team downstairs in the hotel in silence. It was too early to talk or chat. Everyone knew that one thing was going to be on their minds: winning. It was not worth discussing, either. Everyone knew that our varsity eight was possibly the strongest that McCallie had ever had, and that we had a good chance of winning some gold medals that day, if not a great chance. We loaded on the bus like ants, noiselessly flowing into one little opening. The bus ride was silent all of the way over as well. Everyone's heads, looking intently forward, were slightly jostling along with the bumps in the road. Some tried to sleep, but the tension and excitement was too much for most of them to be successful.
It was a cold cloudy Friday morning. The day of the most nerve racking championship game had finally arrived for the two rivalry basketball teams, the Kress Lady Roos and the Hart Lady Horns. Weeks and weeks of hard, aggressive, closely won ball games one after another. Only a little bit of time after that to get ready for the most important game ever; this is the game everyone has been preparing for. A ton of exhausting conditioning and an enormous amount of shooting lead up to this moment. Every girl on the Lady Roos basketball team feels excited, pumped, and ready for the game later tonight. Constantly thinking and feeling overly enthusiastic of what the outcome of the game would be like. We all had predictions of what we wanted the game to be like but it was up to whichever team wanted it the most. With all the confidence and motivation that we had that morning we just wanted school to be over with already. It did not end quickly though. School was such a drag. We all could not wait for that three-thirty bell to ring so we could hop onto that big, yellow, warm bus. Finally, the loud, annoying bell goes off. It was now, “Game Time”! Only hours away until we would play the game of our lives. As we approached the humongous school our opponents were already there. We did not want to even look at them when we walked in. We did not want to be discouraged by what kind of players they were. As the minutes passed by it was time to get ready. We could already hear our loud and passionate fans approaching the gym. We love our dedicated and supportive Kress community. As the warm-up started we all became very anxious and jittery but knew we had to shake it off and stay focused. As we had our last talk with the coach and said our glorious ...
My immediate feeling are blends of excitement and uncertainty, but I know I need to be confident on the exterior for my team to have a chance at taking home the championship trophy. After I converge and talk with my best friend Deron and some friends that will be watching, I walk to the rest of my team and join in the group huddle. We briefly discuss some basic plays. I go on to rub the dust that has fixed itself onto my Jordans as I jog over to the court and take some shots. My release and is tangled up and awkward. It turns out to not even make contact with the rim. Embarrassing. In my defence I've never played in a state cup, so it's kind of a nerve-wracking experience.
Basketball a sport that is played throughout the whole world. When playing this sport all you need is a ball and basket. Though the basket does have to be a certain height kids play it in their classroom or outside. What I mean by this is that kids and even adults in the office treat a trash can as a basket and whatever their trash is as a ball. I got interested in this sport when I was in middle school in eighth grade moving on to high school. I was never interested in basketball until I played it with a group of kids who today are still my friends.
Down two with six seconds to go fatigue had taken it tolls on the players. With little energy left; over time was not an option. I knew I had to go for the win. I walk on the floor confident of my ability that was until the whistle blew quickly turning my confident to butterflies. As I fought to get open I quickly saw the ball coming my way. As I rose for a jump shot time itself began to stay still. An in flesh everything became silent. As I watch the ball leave my hand I envisioned greatness; sure the ball was on its way in I started to celebrate that was until I hear the announcer say my teammate tip in miss shot to win us the game. Mix with emotion I celebrate with my teammate. “Ok guys, we have 24 hours until tip off. Get some rest because this is going to be the biggest game of your life. Let’s bring this championship back to Barton College. Go Bulldogs and Goodnight!” Why few players stay in the lobby to hang out I took it talk upon to work on my game and reflect on the semifinal game that just took place. At basketball games you will notice how there are all sorts of fans attending the game.
