A Decision To Make
What do you do if there is a difficult decision to make, and this decision will effect your entire family and even what people think of you? Add the fact that no matter what decision you make, it will feel like a mistake. These are the things I am dealing with when trying to decide whether or not to put my son in a group home.
My son is nine years old and suffers from Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and mental retardation. He was born prematurely and critically ill. Though odds were very much against him, he made it. A year later, after his first MRI, we first heard the words Cerebral Palsy. By the age of two I knew he was Autistic but we could not get a diagnosis until he was seven. He was put on medication to help his self-abusive behaviors and self-stimulation.
Self-stimulation is a behavior that my son enjoys and can feel, but I do not care for them. My son would bang his head continuously, slap himself, and vomit. It is hard to imagine enjoying these behaviors but he does, and I certainly do not. We do not go on trips or in public unless my husband and myself are present to help control his behavior and our two other children's behavior.
He has been known to bite and scratch strangers, steal food from other's plates while eating out, and pour drinks right on top of his head. My other children have no extra-curricular activities because I can not control him alone. He can be violent, to himself or others. On the other hand, he can be so sweet for a child who does not need hugs or kisses, though we give them anyway.
The strain of caring for him can be exhausting and the responsibility is tremendous. He knows no fear and has no concept for his own safety so he must be watched constantly. He will not perform any activities of daily living, so we bathe him, brush his teeth, dress him, and change his diapers. Every door in our home has a lock that he can't reach, except the front door, which has four.
Many people we have contact with mentioned group homes, but for a long time I refused to even consider it.
One day, as I was cleaning up vomit for the second time that day and after I changed the fifth dirty diaper of the day, I broke down, sobbing.
In January of 1848, gold was discovered at Sutter’s Mill, which is now in present-day California. From 1848-1849, 300,000 people rushed to California in search of gold. These gold-seekers, nicknamed “Forty-Niners”, came from all over the world. Most of the Forty-Niners came from the rest of America, but some even came from Europe, Australia, Latin America, and Asia. Because of the huge gold rush, roads, churches, schools, canals, cities, and towns were established in the California area. This new economic explosion influenced California to become a state in the Union.
Our experiences shape us into the humans we are today. While we were all raised with differing beliefs and goals in life, we all share critical developmental periods that need to be met, for us to grow and emerge into successful adults. Without proper parental supervision children will miss the window of opportunity for these critical periods, if these critical periods are not met abnormal behavior known as feral or wild will appear. Feral children have very little known of them, they’re brains are mysteries that researchers are trying to uncover. The public tends to use information that they have seen before to make assumption about uncertain subjects, most of the misconceptions about feral children and their realities stem from two Disney

...erall, the California Gold Rush was an important discovery that contributed to the development and expansion of the United States. Prior to the Gold Rush, California was a remote and lightly populated area. Nonetheless, the California Gold Rush brought thousands of people across the United States to the West and started a new era where opportunities and dreams developed. In fact, roads, schools and new towns were built throughout California as a result of the gold rush boom. Shortly, railroads were built across the country from California to the eastern part of the United States while agriculture and ranching expanded to meet the needs of the people. Lastly, new technologies were developed and soon the economy in the West took off. In the end, the California gold rush was undoubtedly one of the major events that shaped the western United States as we know it today.
Being healthy is one of the most important Be Your Best Self aspects because it encompasses so much of our day-to-day lives. To be described as healthy, I not only have to be physically fit, but also mentally, socially, and financially fit. Being healthy has many benefits. Exercise allows a person to be a happier, calm, energized, and confident individual. The same can be said for exercising the brain, socializing, and keeping finances in order. By being healthy I will feel better every day and find fierce determination and discipline in the process.
It brought a sense of freedom and independence on those who traveled, created a cosmopolitan in a short time frame. The gold rush made California into a state and enterprise. "Adventures began and ended there." which was once what Carl Nolte a reporter from the San Francisco Chronicle said on the California Gold
The California Gold Rush started in 1848. This turned California into a rapidly growing state. The Gold Rush hurt the Native Americans. The people already living on the land had never known that the mineral found in their water and soil was valuable. They were forced out of their land, and struggled to survive with the sudden influx of people. (“The Gold Rush” 191-193) The Gold Rush was mainly beneficial, but also tarnished relationships with the Native people. Buffalo was a huge part of the Native American culture. Whites slaughtered buffalo, leaving the population of the creature dwindling. The Plains Tribes were generally peaceful, but the white settlers and explorers disturbed them and their way of life. (“Plains Indian Wars” 1235) Americans were very greedy while moving west, and this caused many Native American conflicts. The Homestead Act of 1862 offered 160 acres of land to families and individuals with a head of the family of at least twenty-one years of age. Although this was a very tempting offer, once people moved out west, the land was often mountainous with rocky soil that was unable to be farmed. Settlers sold the land to pioneers who were eager to find gold and left in search of better farmland because of these conditions. (“Homestead Act” 704-706) This encouraged people to move west, even with the downfalls of the geography of the large portion of land. The want for natural resources caused many issues, but also benefitted the country by creating wealth and drawing people from other countries to
To begin, Mao was mostly responsible in terms of establishing a strong foundation in his soldiers, setting aside internal conflict to first deal with the matter of saving China, and considering the rights of those with lesser status. However, irresponsibility was shown through the effects of the Great Leap Forward and the following famine as well as the Cultural Revolution. In Jinggang of 1927, Mao united five rural villages as a self-governing Communist state and attempted to bring them into order. Additionally he changed the military tactics so that the soldiers would stand a better chance against the enemy . Mao rose to the occasion, took charge of the administration as a leader, and essentially pledged himself into giving the area a higher possibility of survival. Also in Jinggang Shan, Mao also took to issues regarding the women and their personal privileges. At the end o...
All children need interaction to be able to identify their role in society and to gain the ability to have a relationship with others. When there is no one there to instill security into a child they will always feel unsecure. If no one teaches a child how to trust and is always hurting them, they will feel as if everyone is dangerous. It is up to the care giver to give children the tools they need in order to survive in the world and when they are not given these tools, even when rescued, many feral children do not live long because of the social expectations given to them that they know nothing
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease which causes millions of death in humans. In India approximately 500,000 deaths occurs now and then. TB is an air borne disease which is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Apart from M. tuberculosis, there are many strains of Mycobacterial species like M. bovis , M .africanum , M. microti, M. caprae , M. pinnipedi i, M. canetti and M. mungi. Together these species are known to be M. tuberculosis complex. The main target of tuberculosis is the lungs (i.e. pulmonary tuberculosis) as well as other parts of the body (i.e. systemic tuberculosis). Most tuberculosis does not cause infection which is known as latent tuberculosis (i.e. they remain in inactive form). The spread of infection is due to active TB infection cough, sneeze, and fluid transmission or by aerosol in the air, and not by surface contact.
When Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mao Zedong first rose to power at the start of the Chinese Civil War, major change was on the horizon for Nationalist China. With rising inflation and civil instability at the hands of corrupt government leaders, the time had come for the Communists to take the helm in China. Mao branded this as a chance to use communist ideals to promote economic development. He believed that he could bring China to an economic level on par with its industrialized neighbors at a rapid pace, gaining him a huge following. Unfortunately for the Communist party, support for Mao hemorrhaged following the profound failures of the Great Leap Forward, an economic program he spearheaded. Mao’s plan managed to leave the agricultural industry in ruins and destroy the working population in China. Not accepting failure, once Mao had faded into near obsoleteness, he plunged back into the public eye. He claimed China was on the cusp of a dangerous return to capitalism. He called for a rebellion. Newfound support was especially common among Chinese youth, who searched for something to believe in in a relatively stagnant China. Mao’s Cultural Revolution, enabled by the rebellious youths, left the nation in a catastrophic state. It wreaked havoc on the Chinese social structure, forging class divides and resulting in a breakdown of law and order. Therefore, Chairman Mao Zedong's efforts to improve China to his own standards—the botched Great Leap Forward and the Chinese Cultural Revolution, accomplished exactly opposite of what they desired to achieve, leaving the Chinese economy and social struc...
Mao could have done better for the country. Mao’s contributions to China were significant, yet his mistakes could also shoot down many of his contributions. Mao in his late years already lost his ability to rationally manage the country. It’s sad to admit that Mao’s spoil for dominating the country eternally kept him away from loving his people
In the year 1882, Robert Koch identified Mycobacterium tuberculosis as the causative agent of tuberculosis (TB). According to Mandal, Mycobacterium tuberculosis existed about 15,000 to 20,000 years ago. It has also been proved that Europeans contributed a a very large extension in the spead of TB around the word (Jaeger et al., 2012). Tuberculosis reached its peak in 18th century and resulted in large number of deaths. At the time, TB was rampant, causing one-seventh of all cell deaths in Europe and one-third of deaths among productive young adults. Today TB remains a global health problem of enormous dimension. It has been reported by Centre for disease Control and Prevention that in the year 2011, about 1.4 million people died with TB all around the world and about 9 million people became sick with TB (CDC | TB | Data and Statistics").
