A Day At the Fair - Personal Narrative It is Thursday, August 24th, the opening day of the Minnesota State Fair. I am here with my family, a friend and his mom, and one of my sister’s friends. It seems so long since last year’s fair. I always look forward to the state fair, even though it’s pretty much the same every year. We park at the same man’s house every year. His house is right behind the mini-donut stand on midway parkway, across the street from the main gate. As we pull into his driveway, I feel a pang of excitement run through me, and when I get out, I can smell it. The smell is familiar, distinctive. When the telltale aroma wafts into my nostrils, I remember why come to this thing every year. We walk over to the main gate and through the enormous blue and green arches. The streets are swarming with people, and, to my left, the red, white and blue cab on the space tower is going up and down on its relentless twelve-day trek. We head in the general direction of the Food Building. As I walk, I see Saint Bernard’s Dining Hall and the Merchandise Mart on my left, and the Farmer’s Union building and the Culligan booth on my right. The food building itself is ahead on my left. We enter the Food Building, and as we do, it seems as if a wall of heat hits me. The Food Building is always hot because of all of the ovens they use. Some delicacies include Spudzza (potato pizza), gyros, falafels, and more. The world famous cheese curd booth is also located here. As I browse the aisles, the smells of deep-fried goodness waft into my nostrils. My favorite booth is the Cheese-Filled Italian Loaves booth. I go there and get a sandwich. The Grandstand is the largest building at the fair. It consists of ... ... middle of paper ... ...e top, we start to descend. Before we know it, the trees come up from under us, and our ride is over. We get out and head for the Bazaar. The Bazaar is an outdoor marketplace of international goods. German Oblaten (Wafer cookies), African jewelry, and absolutely delicious Vietnamese egg rolls are just some of the things available here. The main attraction, however, is not the food or jewelry. There is a stage here with some excellent acts. Improv and hypnotist shows are the highlights. They are all very well done. We watch a hypnotist show for about an hour, and then leave and head back for the main gate. Five Pronto-Pups, eight cokes, and one cotton candy later we leave through the front gate. We are all very tired. I had a lot of fun, and can’t wait to come back. So for tonight, I say good-bye to the greatest attraction Minnesota has to offer.
