Never Never by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher: A Comprehensive Book Review

Never Stop. Never Forget. Just Remember. Never Never. These were the safe words of Silas and Charlie to never forget their love for each other and these words also seemed the words the binded the two after what had happen between them. Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher have created this fantastical and mysterious young-adult romance novel that takes the readers into the complicated lives of the two lovers. Silas and Charlie have been best friends ever since they could walk and they fell deeply in love with each other at fourteen, and now they become complete strangers. This is an amazing read that would leave you hanging with every last page of each chapter. The …show more content…

The book ended with a plot twist that could lead to understanding why Silas and Charlie have lost their memories in the first place. While reading the last pages of the book, I was so hooked that it was really hard to breathe because it was like I was Silas who’s reading the letter that holds the truth of what was happening to the two of them. I did enjoy also the feeling of being by their side while they try to uncover the secrets of their past lives. I especially enjoyed the chapter to where they have found a video of Silas surprising Charlie and then making out in the bedroom. It was so private between them that I felt like a voyeur snooping to get a glimpse of what was happening. I particularly did like being inside the heads of the two while they were trying to think whether to trust someone who is a complete stranger but at the same time were feeling this certain connection for each other. I do experience that having my own special friend. I have this special connection with him that every time I look at him. Even though I am so mad or frustrated with him, my heart tells me to calm down and reminds me how much I love him. I also could relate of the feeling of Silas wanting to protect Charlie at all times, because I feel the same way when my friend was in trouble or just when he is not around me.     Throughout reading this novel, my thought on transgender and transsexual individuals was pretty set and stone. For example, I knew from reading the textbook that a transgender is a person that is born—in Jenny’s case—a male, but was psychologically and emotionally born a female. However, Jenny took things one-step further and became a transsexual, which is an individual that underwent surgery to obtain the genitals that match the psychological and emotional gender within, which in her case was a female. Therefore, Jenny Finney Boylan would be considered a transsexual female. What I did not know prior to reading this book is how tedious the process is to make a sex change. To be honest I never thought about the process a transsexual needed to go through to become one’s self, I did not think about the many steps taken to obtain the voice, or look of a female that Jenny was striving for. I also did not think about the surgery, and how scary that type of surgery could actually be. For example, on page 124 Jennifer is discussing the process of transition with her psychologist, Dr. Strange. On this page Dr. Strange is beginning to inform Jenny, and essentially myself, on how to begin the transition of becoming a female. First Dr. Strange was listing off the effects the hormones will have on Jenny’s body, and I first they made sense to me; softer skin, fluffier hair, but I never knew the physical changes hormones could have on someone, especially a man. For instance, I learned that there is such a thing called “fat migration.” This is when the fat on previous parts of your body migrates to another location. I learned from this novel that fat migration is a result of hormones, and since Jenny was once a man, her face would become less r...
