If you are interested in the Earth, science, and math, geology would be a perfect career for you. Geology is used all over the world, and in all different settings. There is a large array of tools and equipment that is needed for being a geologist. You also need to be knowledgeable in subjects like physics, chemistry, and English. Becoming a geologist takes a lot of preparation and schooling. However, the hard work pays off because geologists are payed very well. On top of everything, geologists get to travel and visit unique and interesting places while studying in the field.
Common Work Activities
Geology is the study of earth processes, materials, and history (What Does A Geologist Do from Geology.com 1). Geologists have a wide range of jobs. They are responsible for the planning of field work and studies, where they observe and collect samples of materials (Duties from bls.gov 1). Different areas of geology have different reasons for doing research (1). However, they all have some things in common. When working in the field, geologists all examine the land, take samples, and make maps and sketches of what they observe (Hammonds 18). After working in the field, geologists take their studies back to the laboratory. Here, they examine and test the samples that they took when in the field (19). When that is done, they take what they learned or observed and put it into writing. Geologists often write reports or papers concerning their studies (19). Most geologists have these three things as part as their jobs.

I am most interested in drilling because I find it adrenaline packed. The fact that only mud controls the pressure below an oil well can be a scary fact. I view a drilling simulator the same way I view Call of Duty. Most people, especially soldiers have played Call of Duty. In the army, the joke is that real soldiering is not like call of duty at all.(4) "There is no reset button in real life.” This is probably one of the most popular phrases recruits hear in basic training. After a tour in the military, soldiers are constantly looking for an adrenaline rush. Although I think that drilling would be the best fit for me in that perspective, I also think that reservoir or production engineering would be a great fit because of the computers involved in these specialties. More than anything, I know that in the next five years, I will need to learn more about computers than I ever have. Hot sticks, long tools use to protect them from electrical currents, they make sure they are using insulated tools and wearing insulated gloves (electrician).
Psychology is the study of the mind and the behavior of mammals. Geology is a science that deals with the history of the earth and its life, recorded in rocks. The earth is consistently moving its tectonic plates. Therefore, there may be over 100 earthquakes a day; most of these earthquakes go unnoticed by humans on the crust of the earth. Other earthquakes for example, the one in 2011 located in Japan and the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989 (Earth- Marshak). Unfortunately, many people died in horrific ways during these deadly earthquakes, leaving thousands diagnosed with psychological disorders such as, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Specific Phobias directly related to the natural environment of the earth.

Firstly, geochemists, according to Prospects, study the amount and distribution of chemical elements in rocks and minerals. Geochemists also study the movement of those elements into soil and water systems. The main purpose of geochemistry is to help guide oil exploration, help improve water quality, and develop plans to clean up toxic waste sites. Many of the typical work activities that geochemists take part in are analyzing the age, nature, and components of rock, soil and other environmental samples, conducting sample tests and checks, including gas chromatography, carbon and isotope data, and viscosity and solvent extraction. Most average geochemists are employed by oil and gas companies, consultant firms, and education institutions.
Geology is a great profession because it has so many areas and branches. There is something for anything that you are interested in regarding the Earth and/or it's history. Geologists get to travel to cool places and see cool things. They are paid to spend time in remote and beautiful locations. They are not stuck in one place, because they work in the field, the laboratory, and the office. Being a geologist comes with a lot of work and responsibility, but there are so many rewarding aspects that it is completely worth it.
Rock mechanics is a discipline that uses the principles of mechanics to describe the behaviour of rock in different engineering scale level. Usually for engineering projects (slopes, tunnels and foundations), the scale ranges from a few tens to a few hundred meters. At engineering scale, rock is said to be inhomogeneous, discontinuities, anisotropic and non-linearly elastic. Besides that, rock mechanics also deals with the response of rock when the current boundary condition is disturbed; for instance, excavation of a tunnel in the ground, the in-situ stress of the rock is disturbed.
This field is the science that studies minerals, their crystalline and structures, and their properties. A mineralogist should be working on being able to know the properties of minerals by studying and testing them.
Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions a person has to make in their life. It is so important because that is what we will have to do to support ourselves throughout life. Imagine being stuck in a dead end job and having to go to work every morning and dreading it. That is no spending oneÕs time and life is too short to work 35 years and be unhappy with it. If a person likes the job they do then it is not work, because finding satisfaction out of a job can bring great happiness. That information has enabled me to make the decision of choosing my area of study and career in the field of Information Technology.
Chemistry is the most fascinating science to me. Chemistry applies to all things in the universe; living or non-living. Everything is made of elements which are made up of atoms of a certain atomic number. Thereafter I took AP Chemistry, I knew I had to choose a career in the field of chemistry. I understand and enjoy learning about chemistry. Chemistry is important, interesting, and ever expanding. Therefore, I must pursue a career in Chemistry.
