The lights took the boy over roofs, cities, and oceans. They flew for what seemed like

hours. Finally the boy asked, “When will we get there.”

“We’re here,” exclaimed the lights as they, with the boy decended down onto

an eerie island. Jacked rocks and overgrown weeping trees surrounded the boy.

The child furrowed his brow and said, “This isn’t the sky.”

“No, it is our home,” twinkled the lights.

“But aren’t you stars,” asked the boy with a quivering lip. “Did you lie to me?”

“No, we are fairies, ” cheered the lights. “Now, let us play!”

“But you promised to take me to the stars.”

“We are magic and will give you a star.” They pointed overhead to a glow

Now let us play.” The fairies moved deeper into the gloomy

woods taking there light with them and leaving the boy in the dark. The young child

no longer trusted the fairies, yet miss trusted the dark more.

So he played with the fairies, they chased him through the woods and swam

in the waterfall and laughed together. Eventually the child lost his home and name

to the woods. Yet when he looked at the night sky, he know the island was not

where he should be.

While playing hide and seek one day, the mother spider whispered in the

child’s ear.

“Sweet youngling,” she soothed. “This place is not meant for your kind. It is

enchanted: whoever is here will begin to forget all he knows. You must leave and

quickly. Before the fairies realize what I told you. Here is my web, take it to the top

of the highest tree and wait for it to catch the wind”

The boy blinked in astonishment. The spider spoke the truth, and for a

moment, the spell over the boy broke.

“Thank you,” he said gratefully. Then, ran to the trunk of the tallest tree. The

fairies called for him, but he would not longer heed their sweet lies. The wind took

him away as the stars soared above him. He stretched his arm as far as it
