Deconstruction factors to death toll on 9/11
The Deconstruction of the building is one of the most important aspects of the building, The resources that i have found are related to the topic i have chosen (buildings systems) because it goes over important aspects of the building and helps us recognize how that these factors are related to the topic and also to help show that these where a large part of the death. The research that is to be presented is related to the factors of death on 9/11. The most contributing factors of the death on 9/11 was the Building system’s and how they were not completely prepared or not tested.
On the event of 9/11 when the plane hit there was an immense amount of fuel that was spillet throughout the building streaming down the internals of the buildings walls not only was this jet fuel but it was on fire burning 1,500 Degrees Fahrenheit on the new webbed trusses. it takes 2,750 Degrees Fahrenheit to melt metal it did not melt the beams in the twin towers but nearly weekend them to a point where it loses structure strength which requires much less heat the webbed

But (page 67)”Yet no one had experience in fireproofing those webbed trusses”.The port authority had an event where small fires would happen in february 1975 had caused parts of the floors to buckle and the fire damaged floors in the 9th to the 16th floor, but before this event in 1969 also in this same year they removed the order that the towers should be able to withstand 2-3 hours of fire, depending on the area but before this was set in place The port authority ordered to have the trussed sprayed with a half inch of fireproofing but no one can say why. The question on this order is “would it be possible to apply the mineral to such skinny parts and make it stick to the buildings that would be in constant motion from the wind? Again, the records are bereft of any
December 1st, 1958 tragedy comes to Chicago, the catholic school Our Lady of Angels is a blase a fire has started in the basement of the north wing of the school at the bottom of the stairwell and is roaring through the north wing in a matter of minuets despite the best efforts of the Chicago fire department the north wing is nearly a total loss resulting in the death of 90 people died in the blaze and 5 more were critically injured resulting in deaths. Through my research I have sought to find the role that the construction of the building has played in the precipitation of this tragedy.
The article “Hyatt Regency Walkway Collapse” brought attention a famous case of failed structural design and engineering, analyzed the history of the building’s design and construction, and considered what is to blame for the accident that occurred.
September 11, 2001 is known as the worst terrorist attack in United States history. On a clear Tuesday morning, there were four planes that were hijacked and flown into multiple buildings by a terrorist group named al Qaeda. This group, led by Osama bin Laden, killed nearly 3,000 people. Out of those 3,000 people more than 400 police and 343 firefighters were killed along with 10,000 people who were treated for severe injuries. Many lives were taken, and to this day, people still suffer from the attack. September 11th is the most influential event of the early twenty-first century because it made an increase in patriotism, it caused a rise in security throughout the nation, and it had a tremendous effect of thousands of lives.
On Sept. 11, 2001, A date that will live in infamy for Americans, terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in New York City. At 8:48 a.m. flight 11 crashed into the north tower. As it continued to burn a second plane flight 175 carrying 65 people crashed into the south tower around 9:05 a.m.. as smoke and debris fill the air in New York City after one of the World Trade Center towers collapsed. Police officers and rescue workers on the disaster scene in New York are covered in Ash that was two to three inches deep in places. People wandered dazed and terrified, Several firefighters coated with dust sat on the ground gasping for breath. One top fire official was asked if both towers had completely collapsed: "You can see what I can see, " he responded. "We just have no idea." At least 202 firefighters and possibly up to 350 are missing,
On September 11, 2001 terrorists crashed two American airline airplanes into Twin Towers, killing thousands of people. It was the worst terrorist attack in American history and it showed us that we are not protected by Atlantic and Pacific. It showed us that we could be attacked by anyone at anytime. It showed us that if we will be attacked again that we can only depend on each other and not on other nations to help us. The 9/11 changed people forever, some lost family members or friends, others lost their jobs even so called “American Dream.”
September 11th was a dark and stormy Tuesday where the lives of people became the cost of revenge. Many innocent people faced their Tuesday morning by ending their lives instantly, as a high jacked plane plummeted from the sky, towards their office building. At 8:45 am a high jacked passenger jet, flight 11 of American Airlines, plunges into the North tower of The World Trade Center. 9:03 am another plane hit this time the South tower. Leaving both buildings ablaze in flames of deat...
Experts say that the steel didn't have to melt for the towers to fall (Person 1). This because the structural frame just had to be moved a little bit for the tower to fall. It is true that the steel melts at 2750 degrees fahrenheit when jet fuel only burns at 800 to 1500 degrees fahrenheit not hot enough to melt the steel just by itself. This meaning that the steel didn't melt but wouldn't have to melt for the towers to fall. The steel frames of the towers would just have to be moved just enough for the structural strength to be weekend for the tower to fall. The critics that say that there had to be something that caused the steel to melt or it had to be set up because the jet fuel wouldn't be hot enough by itself to melt the steel, but it didn't have to melt for the tower to fall and then come down on
America is a country where citizens are proud to live and be apart of the great culture. Through many hardships, including the Vietnam war, the Gulf War, 9/11, and Afghanistan; the American population has binded together and show that no matter what happens, they will overcome the adversity. Time and time again, Americans have proven to the world that nothing will keep them down. When a country is threatened as a whole, specifically America and 9/11, the citizens will come together, and they will express a great deal of patriotism while showing their worries towards national security.
Although it may seem that the crashes themselves were the most devastating and terrifying part of the attacks, the fall of the towers caused the most damage and heartbreak all over the country. The first tower to collapse was the South Tower (Inside 9/11: War on America). It came crashing down at 9:59 a.m., almost fifty-six minutes after the initial impact, silencing the city. When the towers were built, they were built to withstand extreme conditions. The towers contained a series of fireproofing. However, the impact of the crash caused the fireproofing to blow off. As a result, the steel structure of the building softened from the extreme heat and flames from the jet fuels. The South Tower stood for fifty-six minutes after the initial impact (Johnson). Soon after the fall of the South Tower, the Pentagon also faced a destructive tragedy. At 10:10 a.m. the part of the Pentagon struck by the airplane also collapsed (Inside 9/11: War on America). Although
Throughout recorded history, fires have been known to cause great loss of life, property, and knowledge. The Great Fire of London was easily one of the worst fires mankind has ever seen causing large scale destruction and terror. Samuel Pepys described the fire as “A most malicious bloody flame, as one entire arch of fire of above a mile long… the churches, houses and all on fire and flaming at once, and a horrid noise the flames made.” (Britain Express 1).
I awoke the morning of September 11th in the usual manner, my T.V. was programmed to turn on at 7 a.m. and so it was no accident that the news was on, still something was different. There was no banter between Katie Couric and Matt Lauer and they were not talking about the usual trivialities, instead there was ³live² coverage of ³big² events unfolding in downtown Manhattan. Though I still felt groggy, I tried to focus in on the T.V., I saw smoke billowing from the World Trade Center Towers, notice plural, I was sure that although I couldn¹t see the second tower it must be hidden behind the plumes of smoke. But then Katie Couric spoke about how the missing tower had just collapsed, that woke me upthe news was big.
...fire destruction. The above discussed ideas are vital when anyone wants to construct a building. Every developer should put into consideration the fire prevention rules and guidelines spelt out by the government and other players in the field.
Firstly I will provided a brief timeline of events beginning with the first WTC collapsing all the way to the built output of the new WTC. I will examine the political effects on the building followed by social and the economic. In conclusion I will state how and how much all these issues have affected the built output.
In the case study that will be discussed in the following section, the company that took on the massive project of renovating the Sears Tower ran into many difficulties, mainly the c...
