America is a country where citizens are proud to live and be apart of the great culture. Through many hardships, including the Vietnam war, the Gulf War, 9/11, and Afghanistan; the American population has binded together and show that no matter what happens, they will overcome the adversity. Time and time again, Americans have proven to the world that nothing will keep them down. When a country is threatened as a whole, specifically America and 9/11, the citizens will come together, and they will express a great deal of patriotism while showing their worries towards national security. When the tragedy that 9/11 was happened, Americans came together as a country, and as a whole, to overcome the catastrophe. Over 3,000 people died either …show more content…
in the towers, or in the general vicinity of the towers. Many of the people who died were first responders, who all obviously risked their lives to save as many people as possible. 343 firefighters and paramedics died trying to save people, along with 23 New York Police officers and 37 port authority police officers. Everyone who was in the area was doing as much as they could to do their part in helping. People who did not have to risk their lives, did it anyways because their fellow countrymen’s lives were in danger. After the initial attacks happened, and the towers collapsed, many people responded in different ways. Many people turned to their faith. Most churches were filled, in New York city, with people praying for family members and other people they know to be affected. Even at the Al-Abadin mosque in Queens, the imam was heard saying, “ We join with our fellow Americans in prayer for the killed and injured”. Muslims were receiving a lot of discrimination, since the terrorists were Muslim, but that didn’t stop them from praying for their fellow Americans. In other attempts to help, thousands of people donated their blood for the over 10,000 people injured in the attacks. Over 36,000 units of blood were donated to the New York blood center shortly after 9/11. And it just wasn’t in New York that people donated. People lined up to donate blood to multiple Red Cross offices around the country, and there was even a day long wait at a blood drive building in Madison, Wisconsin. Donations in blood wasn’t the only way to help though, there were plenty of money donations. Amazon set up a way to have a one-click donation to the Red Cross and it raised over 3 million dollars in two days. Americans, as stubborn and strong as they are, stood up from the hit and overcame, together. Not only did Americans band together as an effect of the 9/11 attacks, they also began to show an increased level of patriotism. Americans throughout the country were urged by themselves to show that they were proud to be an American. My dad, who I interviewed, said “ I had never seen such a great amount of patriotism except for when the Gulf war had just started”. My dad, and millions of other Americans, went out bought flags to put up on their properties, cars, and businesses. He also said, “ It got to the point where if you didn’t own a flag, you looked bad”. The amount of patriotism also lead to many people joining the military. There was a huge boost in military enlistment following the attacks. Since the attacks, more than three million people have enlisted to join the military. My mother, the other person I interviewed, had multiple family members that enlisted after 9/11. 3 of her cousins joined the army within a year of 9/11. 2 out of the 3 weren’t even born in America and didn’t grow up in the United States. My mom explains, “ I have two cousins who were born and grew up in Hungary, until the age of 15. They moved the States and became citizens a couple years later. They were 22 when 9/11 happened and they both decided to go and enlist in the military. They loved the way they lived in America and they wanted everyone else to keep living that way. They felt a great duty to keep that way of life for all Americans”. Even citizens who haven’t lived in America for the majority of their life, showed the ultimate display of patriotism by enlisting in the army. Other people who showed great patriotism were the first responders. They risked their lives to protect and serve their country in the heat of the moment. They were asked a great deal on 9/11, but they went out and did all they could anyways. 9/11 also lead to the citizens of America to worry about their overall safety and their sense of national security.
The plane hijackers took over the planes by sneaking scissors and box cutters through security easily. After people realized this, many of them began to fear what else could happen. My dad is an example of one of the many citizens worried. He said, “ Obviously it affected me when I traveled. Before this, I never even imagined something like 9/11 could be possible, but, after it, that sort of thing is all I could think about when I got on a plane”. He traveled a lot for his job at the time, and had no problem flying, but after that, he was stressed to go on a plane. Actually, about half of grown american adults showed stress because of 9/11. The attacks obviously lead to the government trying to fortify the security of the nation. The government passed a new bill known as the Patriot act. The Patriot act gave the government more power in the realm of hunting and finding terrorists. Security at airports were also majorly beefed up to try and prevent another catastrophe. The president, George Bush, also started to conduct military operations in Afghanistan to try and uproot the terrorist groups. Shortly after starting the military campaign, the President’s approval rating soared up to 90 percent, showing that many Americans wanted to feel more secure and find the terrorists. 9/11 lead to the American people to show their worry towards national security, and this lead to the government acting on
it. 9/11 was a day that will live forever in infamy, just like pearl harbor, and will serve as a remembrance to all the brave and innocent people who died on that day. America evolved as a whole after the great catastrophe and people showed what they thought they had to do as a citizen of the United states of America. When America was threatened in entirety, the citizens will form together as one community, and express the highest level of patriotism that a country can how, and also express their worry for security.
Before the attacks on September 11th, Americans were under the assumption that an individual or group of individuals could not do such a devastating thing to humanity. Prior to 9/11 there was a lack of security in airports and on airplanes. “In 2001, airline security was minimal and was the responsibility of the airline. Passengers were asked a few questions by ticket agents before they passed through checkpoints with metal detectors that were calibrated to sound an alarm for anything larger than a small caliber handgun. If an alarm did sound, security at the checkpoint would...
September 11, 2001 was a day that Americans and the world for that matter will not soon forget. When two planes went into the twin towers of the World Trade Center and two others went into the Pentagon and a small town in Pennsylvania, the world was rocked. Everyone in the United States felt very vulnerable and unsafe from attacks that might follow. As a result, confidence in the CIA, FBI, and the airlines were shaken. People were scared to fly after what had happened.
9/11 was one of the most devastating events in American History. Four hijacked passenger airplanes killed almost three thousand people. 9/11 changed millions of lives forever. American Citizens didn’t feel safe. This attack was a wake-up call to American security. 9/11 forced the country to acknowledge its shortcomings and fix them, before any more harm could come upon the United States of America. 9/11, as all acts of terror do, promoted the growth of technology, in this case, security in the United States. 9/11 also brought about feelings of hatred to the country. The United States soon became known as one of the most intolerable nations on this planet. Lastly, 9/11 butchered the economy and forced it down a long road to recovery.
On September 11, 2001 New York came upon a terrorist attack. The terrorist hijacked four airplanes the morning of the attack. The attack was part of the Al-Qaeda Islamist group, led by Osama Bin Laden. Two planes collided into the World Trade Center; one hit the Pentagon, and the other one crashed in Pennsylvania never reaching its destination. The cause of 9/11 is that Islam saw the United States as a heinous country with different and awful morals so they decided to attack. The consequences were the tensions between Americans and Muslims rose. Numerous hate crimes were committed and there was a massive economic downfall. We could have avoided this incident if the airport security would have been more strict, then the attack would have a less chance of happening (Bantista). “Make no mistake, the United States will hunt down and punish those responsible for these cowardly acts. Freedom itself was attacked this morning by a faceless coward. And freedom will be defended.” –President Bush directly after the 9/11 attacks (Tsimelkas). The government issued extreme changes in the military system and the surveillance ...
The attacks that occurred on 9/11 took place on September 11th, 2001. In this devastating event, four different attacks had taken place. Each of the attacks were carried out by terrorists. The group responsible for the attack was Al-Qaeda, a militant Islamist organization that is known to be global in present day. The group itself has a network consisting of a Sunni Muslim movement that aims to make global Jihad happen. Furthermore, a stateless, multinational army that is ready to move at any given time. This terrorist group focuses on attacking non-Sunni Muslims, those who are not Muslim, and individuals who the group deems to be kafir. Ever since the late 1980s, Al-Qaeda has been wreaking havoc all around the world. The leader of the group once being Osama bin Laden. Three planes were bound for New York City while another plane headed towards Washington, D.C. which was supposed to take out the U.S. Capitol. Two of the airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center. One plane hitting the North Tower and the other hitting the South Tower. The third plane had crashed into the Pentagon taking out the western side of the building. The last and final plane was focused solely on taking out the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. but failed due to passengers of the plane coming hijacking it from the hijackers. The passengers attempted to take out the hijackers but sadly failed, crashing it into a field in Pennsylvania. Throughout the content of this paper, we will be focusing on the role of media when it comes to 9/11; more specifically: how the media's coverage of 9/11 manipulated our feelings towards 9/11, how it affected Islamophobia in America, and the lasting effects of 9/11.
One of the most devastating terrorist attacks in United States history, 9/11, has taken the
These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.” George Bush was president at the time when the 9/11 attack happened. George Bush wrote this quote for the thousands of lives that were hugely affected. To the kids worried about their parents while they are in school, to the worried husbands and wives, and brothers and sisters. The 9/11 attack did not only change the lives of people who lost a loved one, and the people who were there where the planes hit, but also people who just saw what was happening and people who heard about it, cried. The increase and patriotism and the rise in security will make people feel more secure and protected but it will never change the the amount of people affected by 9/11. Millions of people around the world know about what happened on September 11th, 2001. Millions of people will be changed
There were numerous events and threats leading up to the terrorists attacks on the World Trade Center which left chaos amongst the streets of downtown New York City and would leave America and its families devastated and prone to change after this infamous date in our nation’s history. What happened on September 11th, 2001 was without a doubt both horrific and ill natured. Multiple terrorists hijacked several US airliners that would later be flown into the North and South towers, the Pentagon, and also an unintended area in Pennsylvania. It can be said that the United States of America was unprepared and vulnerable for these occurrences.
On September 11, 2001 terrorists crashed two American airline airplanes into Twin Towers, killing thousands of people. It was the worst terrorist attack in American history and it showed us that we are not protected by Atlantic and Pacific. It showed us that we could be attacked by anyone at anytime. It showed us that if we will be attacked again that we can only depend on each other and not on other nations to help us. The 9/11 changed people forever, some lost family members or friends, others lost their jobs even so called “American Dream.”
9/11 was one of the darkest days in America, but some say the government could have been part of these attacks. For many years people have debated about the 9/11 cover up. This theory cannot explain why the government would do this. Once people understand why the 9/11 cover up is fake, they will begin to see the answer to their problem, could the government have done this? This conspiracy theory is wrong because, terrorists admitted to the attacks, so many people died, and there's no evidence against the government.
The terror attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001 affected all of America after that day. People hugged their loved ones tighter and some Americans took action to defend our country. Some Americans choose to defend our country by joining the military. Others in the country demanded change by creating and pushing legislature with the intent of keeping American safe. The laws that passed which occurred because of the attacks on 9/11 have been helpful to America because they have enabled government agents in their search for terrorists,
Franklin Roosevelt's Statue of Liberty speech he says, "Realization that we are all bound together by hope of a common future" (Roosevelt Pg. 10). Americans have one strong aspect that many countries do not, they have high patriotism and pride. Americans can come together to form the strongest bonds of friendship and courage. After an event such as a terrorist attack, American has faced two important moments, shock, then pride. That pride from an event is the American people coming together and rising up, putting all differences aside.
Though 9/11 was depressing, there was hope. Many people helped others and showed their love for our country. For example, the F.D.N.Y. firefighters placed an American flag where the towers once stood. Seeing the symbolism of America in the pile of rubble made me feel
When the terrorist attacks occurred on 9/11 it did more than just affect the comfort level of American citizens. It had an all around impact on how this country will be run for years to come. The one economic impact that I will concentrate on is that the attacks, arguably, but directly effected the U.S. GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and how the national budget will be handled from that day forward.
Before September 11, 2001, America was a very different place. Anyone over 30 can tell you stories about the “day the world stopped turning”. People did not know the world to be scary and did not fear the unknown, as they do today. The government also did not have the laws in place that they do now a days. Doug Robinson says “… before 9/11 you could stroll to the gate at the airport without a ticket and greet family and friends as they arrived or see them off as they departed” (Robinson). The security in public places was very lax compared to the security in the post September 11, America. People before the attacks did not need to worry about their privacy being invaded. People did not need to go through hours at airport security, but rather walked in as if they were getting onto a school bus. “You could board a plane without having to remove your shoes or belt or some other article of clothing. You didn’t get frisked and exposed to full body scans by grumpy TSA agents and made to stand with your arms raised and legs spread as...
