In March of 2016, a 7-year-old-girl, Jenna Viloria, dialed 9-1-1 after her dad fell unconscious to the floor. Jenna Viloria, remained calm and was able to provide dispatchers with her complete address and patiently waited for help to arrive, consequently saving her father’s life. 9-1-1 centers, such as the one Jenna called, are responsible for coordinating first responders, this task is an integral part of the Homeland Security mission. In 2013, days after the marathon bombing, a call came into a 9-1-1 center stating that there was a person hiding inside man’s boat that was located outside his home. With a suspect on the loose, 9-1-1 dispatcher informed officers in the area. Two minutes later, law enforcement officers secured the scene, and
In unit six we learned about anthropology and entomology and how forensic scientist use it different cases. Even though entomology was not that useful in The Oklahoma bombing case, anthropology was extremely useful for identifying the victims. Since it was an explosion, Forensic anthropologist had to study different remains of the victim's body and use different techniques (such as examining bone development) to identify who they were. For example, the death toll was originally 169 people (one person higher) than it is now because of an unidentified left leg was found and they couldn’t find the body it originally came from. Later, medical examiners compared the size of the tibia of the leg to other victims right leg. Finally forensic found
When situations arise and people die or become ill a value has to be placed on their life to determine if they are going to be healed or if their family is going to be compensated for their loss. The value of life has a variety of interpretations based on the approach a person decides to take. Some people think of human life with an economic point of view which can led to certain deceased citizens receiving more money for accidents than others. The economic view also says that if a surgery is going to cost the government to much money then the person who needs the surgery should not get it. On the other hand, some people look at it emotionally and say that everyone should get an equal amount of money for incidents that occur. People who look
911 operators are the beginning to every emergency others are faced with and also hold a huge role in getting these situations resolved, but there are many misconceptions and stereotypes that argue the difficulty in their field of work. Stereotypes have been around since the 19th century and were brought about to characterize a certain group of people in which the way they behave, intending for it to represent the group as a whole. A misconception derives from stereotypes but, more often than not the misconceptions show not to be true for those certain groups of people. Stereotypes and misconceptions are brought upon naturally, and one will even stereotype others without realizing it. Being a 911 operator is a job where you sit at a desk

The attacks that occurred on 9/11 took place on September 11th, 2001. In this devastating event, four different attacks had taken place. Each of the attacks were carried out by terrorists. The group responsible for the attack was Al-Qaeda, a militant Islamist organization that is known to be global in present day. The group itself has a network consisting of a Sunni Muslim movement that aims to make global Jihad happen. Furthermore, a stateless, multinational army that is ready to move at any given time. This terrorist group focuses on attacking non-Sunni Muslims, those who are not Muslim, and individuals who the group deems to be kafir. Ever since the late 1980s, Al-Qaeda has been wreaking havoc all around the world. The leader of the group once being Osama bin Laden. Three planes were bound for New York City while another plane headed towards Washington, D.C. which was supposed to take out the U.S. Capitol. Two of the airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center. One plane hitting the North Tower and the other hitting the South Tower. The third plane had crashed into the Pentagon taking out the western side of the building. The last and final plane was focused solely on taking out the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. but failed due to passengers of the plane coming hijacking it from the hijackers. The passengers attempted to take out the hijackers but sadly failed, crashing it into a field in Pennsylvania. Throughout the content of this paper, we will be focusing on the role of media when it comes to 9/11; more specifically: how the media's coverage of 9/11 manipulated our feelings towards 9/11, how it affected Islamophobia in America, and the lasting effects of 9/11.
Libya and the United States had endured constant tensions throughout the mid- to late-twentieth century because of their conflicting ideas on terrorism. The United States was involved in a bombing on Libya that had an effect towards the Libyan leader. These tensions built up until someone took drastic measures. On December 21, 1988, the Pan American flight 103 was bombed as a result of these long standing tensions between the United States and Libya.
For instance, the multiple calls made to family members as well as 911 from the frantic passengers. Mark Bingham for instance called 911, as well as his mom telling her he loved her and that the plane was being hijacked. Another man called 911 screaming that they were being hijacked and that he heard some sort of explosion and saw white smoke coming from the plane. Then there was Tom Burnett, who called his wife saying the hijackers had already stabbed to death one passenger and that he intended to do something about it. A Jeremy Glick called his relatives saying the same, that he and some other passengers were intending to fight the hijackers. These calls brought up the thought that perhaps some passengers on board had fought the hijackers, keeping them from controlling the plane, and sending it crashing to the ground.

September 11th, 2001 is one of the worst days in the United States of America’s history by far. It all began at 8:45am when a stolen airplane crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Many people believed that this was...
At 8:19 am – Flight attendants aboard Flight 11 (Boston’s Logan International Airport en route to Los Angeles) alert ground personnel that the plane has been hijacked; American Airlines notifies the FBI. Around 8:24 am – Hijacker Mohammed Atta makes the first of two accidental transmissions from Flight 11 to ground control in an attempt to communicate with the plane’s cabin. Following this, twenty-four minutes later – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) alerts North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD)’s Northeast Air Defense Sector (NEADS) about the suspected hijacking of Flight 11. In response, NEADS call upon two fighter planes located at Cape Cod’s Otis Air National Guard Base to locate and tail Flight 11; they are not yet in the air when Flight 11 crashes into the North Tower. Next in this crucial timeline, at 8:46 am – Mohammed Atta and the other hijackers aboard American Airlines Flight 11 crash the plane into floors 93-99 of the North Tower of the World Trade Center, killing everyone on board and hundreds inside the
Three disaster response changes that took place after 9/11 was patient privacy issues as they relate to patient locator systems, worker protection issues, volunteer issues, Emergency Medical Treatment, and Active Labor Act. Hospitals activated their disaster plans, cancelled elective surgeries, and started to discharge patients to create available room for patients in the disaster. The hospital allowing beds to be wherever there was room to treat people from 9/11. Allbaugh recreated the Office of National Preparedness (ONP), which was first established in the 1980s during the Guiffrida reign to plan for World War III (but had been eliminated by Witt in 1992.) The office was recreated with a new mission, to
September 11th 2001 marks a day in US history that no one will ever forget. The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center that occurred that day resulted in the biggest emergency service response ever in US history. Hundreds of police officers, EMS, and firefighters surrounded the area. However, according to a New York Times article, “The New York Police Department's response to the Sept. 11 attack was effective in many areas but suffered from lapses in leadership and coordination and a lack of proper planning and training, according to a draft report by an independent consultant for the department.” (Rashbaum, 2002)
I’d have to say that it is difficult to view all of the footage of the World Trade Center and not think that some stories that are being fed to us Americans are not the full truth. For all of the events that take place in the world to be so heavily covered by the media, I still don’t seem to grasp a clear picture of what’s really going in the world abroad and neither do the rest of the American people. I believe that the president is to alert the American people of important matters concerning our well being. I can’t help but feel a certain amount of betrayal from our president and administration for not taking further action to stop these planes while they were still in the air seeing that they indeed had prior knowledge of these attacks. I am glad to see that the American people are seeking the truth and I believe that we have every right to ask the government questions. The problem that is posed is the fact that the government is not answering these questions for us nor are attempting themselves to research these concerns that we have.
Ten years ago, four suicide bombers with rucksacks full of explosives attacked central London, killing 52 people and injuring hundreds more. Three of the bombs exploded simultaneously, in three different London Underground trains. One hour later, another bomb was detonated, but this time on top of a double-decker bus. The bombings left three different London underground trains in ruins. This was the worst single terrorist atrocity on British soil.
Douhetism is the theory of strategic bombing. This theory was named after Giulio Douhet, the most important of the airpower theorists. According to Douhetism there was no reliable defense against planes invading a nation’s air space to drop bombs, making strategic bombing unstoppable. Douhet reasoned that any major nation could afford building 1000 aircraft minimum. Therefore, nations could engage in war within hours after war was declared because bombers could be ready fast, saving the time that takes to call the reserves, mobilize the soldiers, etcetera.
