...the marathon, form a sense of unity and bond over love for the same cause. It is important for any athlete or coach working with a team to know how to work as one unit to achieve a common goal, rather than trying to pull all the weight alone. Raising over $176,000 for UNI Dance Marathon 2014 would have been impossible for one person to achieve!
The day they ran the Boston Marathon, the date was April 15, 2013, and it was the 117th annual run. According to history.com, "The event is held on Patriots' Day, which commemorates the 1775 battles of Lexington and Concord that kicked off the American Revolutionary War." The run in 2013 started in Hopkins right outside of Boston. There were around the amount of 23,000 runners for this marathon in 2013. The women usually started at 9:32 am, that’s usually the elite women. The elite men usually kicked off at around 10:00 am then the rest at 10:20 to 10:40. At about 2:49 pm with about 5,600 still running the marathon, two bombs
The Seagate Ultras on November 26, 1994, included races of 60 km, 50 miles, and 100 km, each run on the same 1.1 mile loop. There were approximately 10, 10, and 6 runners, respectively, in these races, which were judged separately. My 9:29 time for 100 km was not very fast, but it won that race easily, and I also went through 60 km and 50 miles faster than anyone in those races. So I am not a novice.
The $160.00 entry fee that is required to run in "The Race Across the Sky" is money well spent. Not only do individuals get to run in one of the most beautiful states in the country, but they get to experience the friendly atmosphere of Colorado. The locals from Leadville volunteer to work at the aid stations which line the course, and there is truly a spirit for running. It is not only a challenging and competitive race, but a guaranteed good time. Throughout the 30 hour race which begins at 4:00 A.M. and ends at 10:00 A.M. the following day, there are fans and volunteers to make the experience more enjoyable. There is definitely a "personal" feeling which the Leadville 100 brings to running.
Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience to strengthen their commitment to participate in National Women’s Law Center and American Association of University Women Organization.
the day of the event, there were about ten to twenty four races. Just like today there were many
...rint car tracks all around the country and it is truly a rural phenomenon. I feel that now I better understand the sport and what all is involved, I can finally appreciate sprint car racing for what it is. Through all of this research my interest has grown to heights that were before unimaginable. I cannot wait until springtime so I can head down to the track and take in my first sprint car racing experience. I know it will be a great experience that will help me better connect with my friends and become more in tune with my community
The course is weird, it’s a two lap which is good. This means you know exactly what the second half of the race was going to be like. Me as the 4th runner, and the 3 and 5 guys, went single file for a good ⅜ ofa mile and we were zooming around corners. during the back half of the race, I was really close to medaling. I went as fast as I could, I had no idea how fast the race had been, I thought when I saw the teens clicking by it was a 19:teens but I got closer and it was 18:17 I was astounded and straight out of breath. That race we were 4 points behind the 2nd place team, and they were in our district. That set us up for a good week and effort during practice because if we had a race at the district race, we were going to make it as a team to state, which is the goal all season long. I was not feeling great that week and I thought it was going to be like my first xc race finishing with a 16:02 time for 2.x miles and a lot of girls beating me. The morning of race day, I felt like crap, but the bus ride nap to maryville made me feel fine and ready to secure a spot to state. There was a lot of scepticism from the seniors, who were facing their last
During the week I had a certain training to and I would do that training just as it said. Every day during the week I would ride my bike for about twenty-five miles. I could feel my skin getting tanner, but I didn’t mind. I liked to feel the wind in my face, the smell of nature, and admired the view of the many different animals that would cross my path, such as cows, rabbits, deer, and many birds. I really enjoyed hearing the sound of the cow go “MOO”, it made my training much more entertaining and somehow eased my pain from my work out. Probably my favorite part was the speed. Each day I would get faster and see myself closer to my goal. I knew I could accomplish it, I knew I could do it. Every day I rode I rode with a purpose and motivation to win. My weekends were not for me anymore, they were for my training. I would wake up at six am and eat some warm oatmeal and then head it out with the guys to ride. “Cycling provides a personal challenge to demonstrate our individual resolve, and enhances our teamwork”, Teresa Betetti states. I was not always able to keep up with them, but I felt myself getting closer and closer each time, each ride was a challenge and I loved it. I would feel how the workouts that I did during the week would make me stronger. I started riding thirty miles each weekend, then forty-five, then fifty-eight miles! I was really feeling positive. I knew I would win. The trophy would be another one to my
I trained putting in the distance trying to get use to nonstop running unsure of what to expect. I knew it was like nothing I have ever attempted before. Now if you think I’m crazy, my friends thought the same, and you are probably right as a runner you are insane to subject your mind and body to something that excruciating. Why not a marathon? Marathons are generally run on asphalt while I enjoy trail running, in addition, people run those everyday so I knew I was within my limits to complete one. An ultramarathon was so far out of my comfort zone I couldn’t not do one. Only a select few people complete them, as it takes a
Running may be one of the oldest and most developed sports out there. According to legend, the first marathon was run unintentionally in 490 B.C. by a Greek Soldier(James). The soldier ran twenty-five miles to Athens to announce battleground victory over the persians then dropped dead(James). In 1896 the marathon was included in the Olympic games, in Greece, for the first time(James). It was there that the first gold was won by a Greek runner with a time of two hours fifty-eight minutes and fifty seconds(James). The current world record for the fastest finish is two hours three minutes and fifty-nine seconds(James). Marathoning has turned into a world wide activity and every person who participates must endure intense training.

After a couple of weeks of debating the positives and negatives of running and being persuaded by my friends and other Dreamfar members, I finally signed up. I filled out all the necessary forms for Dreamfar and future road races and reminded myself of Dreamfar’s motto: we finish what we start.
was the challenge. If I were to just simply run this race, it would be
