A day that was supposed to be happy turned in seconds. People were injured or killed. Family members were devastated. The Boston Marathon was supposed to be a fun and exciting day for people watching and for the runners. We shouldn’t take every moment for granted, because you never know when it might be your last day or what we might consider "normal." April 15th 2013, will always be a day remembered in history. The day they ran the Boston Marathon, the date was April 15, 2013, and it was the 117th annual run. According to history.com, "The event is held on Patriots' Day, which commemorates the 1775 battles of Lexington and Concord that kicked off the American Revolutionary War." The run in 2013 started in Hopkins right outside of Boston. There were around the amount of 23,000 runners for this marathon in 2013. The women usually started at 9:32 am, that’s usually the elite women. The elite men usually kicked off at around 10:00 am then the rest at 10:20 to 10:40. At about 2:49 pm with about 5,600 still running the marathon, two bombs The two victims said that they were not involved in terrorist groups, but during the investigation they had visited some Al- Qaeda websites to plan out the bombing. Al- Qaeda is an Islamist group that was found by Osama bin Laden in the 1980s. Al- Qaeda is the same group that did the terroist attacks on September 11, 2001. Al- Qaeda means "the base". In 2010, the Al- Qaeda's magazine had a step by step to make a pressure cooker bomb. The brothers were planning to do some of the same acts in New York City. There were up to 264 people injured in this marathon bombing. They were treated within 26 hospitals. On the scene of the bombing there were so many people with detached limbs or so many people with massive cuts that first responders were having to use lanyards as tourniquets.
