The movie I chose to write about is 50/50. This movie was released September 30, 2011 staring big names like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, and Anna Kendrick. These actors are usually known for their comedies but 50/50 takes comedy and turns it into an enlightening take on the effects of cancer on a loved one and coping with terminal illness. The first time I saw this movie was when it was in theaters and just remember crying so much because my grandfather had passed away of cancer in 2009. This movie is very engaging and is interesting to see both perspectives of someone who is going through dealing with the reality that they have a 50% chance of dying and seeing the effects this situation has on family and friends. 50/50 is based on a true story of a 27 year old Will Reiser, who in real life is close friends with Seth Rogan who plays Kyle the best friend of Adam in the movie. Parts of the movie were very cheesy but did give a romantic comedy break from the doom and gloom of this movie. This film did receive a lot of grief for having too much humor, sexual content, and marijuana use. Critics claimed that the humor, sex, and drugs made the overall message not as powerful which I completely disagree with. Humor, sex, and drugs made this situation more realistic to be completely honest. Many people deal with grief in unhealthy ways which is incredibly normal and human of us. If I was diagnosed with a basically terminal cancer I would get a little wild as well! Also the humorous aspects of this movie made in more engaging seeing the rollercoaster of emotions throughout the movie. Also the chemistry of these actors made the movie more genuine and
