24-hour Home Care – Benefits of 24-hour Home Care Many seniors struggle with performing all of the daily tasks needed to live a safe, happy, and quality life. Even so, they want to live at home until they pass, or "age in place" as is it commonly called. Early on, home care services may have been able to help with many of the finer points of living, but when circumstances change and the senior cannot safely be alone throughout the day and night, what are they to do then? This is the benefit of 24-hour home care. 24-hour home care provides seniors with the support and assistance they need to remain independent – as the name says – 24-hours a day. Understand, this assistance could be provided to a senior who is bed-bound due to an accident
or illness, but it could assisting an able-minded senior who just needs help getting around, or whose circumstances requires help with personal care. In this case, a 24-hour home care assistant would be available to help with their needs any hour of the day or night. The senior is still in full control of their life, they just need some help with making things happen. Other times, a loved one may require constant supervision. Family caregivers are doing all they can, but they need a respite. During their time away, the senior still needs round-the-clock assistance. 24-hour home care provides the needed services so the family can safely take a break. Many seniors who require 24-hour care still have very active cognitive abilities and social requirements. Sadly, because of their condition, they are not able to have the social life they want. Companion care is a critical component of home care services. Engaging with the senior on a social and emotional level, playing games, going on outings, etc., is a great way for home care aides to ensure your senior loved one's social needs are met. In short, from basic oversight and companion care to self-care needs (toileting, bathing, grooming, dressing, and so forth) and medication management, 24-hour home care ensures your loved one receives the services they need anytime of the day or night in the comfort and security of their own home.
Long-term care (LTC) covers a wide range of clinical and social services for those who need assistance due to functional limitations. These limitations usually result from complications associated with age related chronic conditions, from disabilities related to birth defects, brain damage, or mental retardation in children; or from major illnesses or injuries suffered by adults (Shi L. & Singh D.A., 2011). LTC encompasses a variety of services including traditional clinical services, social services and housing. Unlike acute care, long-term care is much more complicated and has objectives that are much harder to measure. Acute care mainly focuses on returning patients to their previous functional level and is primarily provided by specialty providers. However, LTC mainly focuses on preventing the physical and mental deterioration of an individual and promoting social adjustments to suit the different stages of decline. In addition the providers of LTC are more diverse than those in acute care and is offered in both formal and informal settings, which include: hospitals, physicians, home care, adult day care, nursing home care, assisted living and even informal caregivers such as friends and family members. Long-term care services have been dominated by community based services, which include informal care (86%, about 10 to 11 million) and formal institutional care delivered in nursing facilities (14%, 1.6 million) (McCall, 2001). Of more than the 10 million Americans estimated to require LTC services, 58% are elderly and 42% are under the age of 65 (Shi L. & Singh D.A., 2011). The users of LTC are either frail elderly or disabled and because of the specific care needs of this population, the care varies based on an indiv...
The quality of the home care must meet the essentials of the patients or service seekers. But it never means to fulfil the basic needs or requirements of the individuals who are seeking the service. On the other hand, if the home care is not able to meet the basic needs of the patients then this is important to analyse the certain reasons behind this (Janamian, et. al., 2014).
The job duties also vary from home healthcare situation to the next. Each patient receiving home healthcare differs in level of independence and cares required. Thus their job duties vary. Personally, the lady I take care of in a home healthcare situation requires many cares. She brushes her own teeth and stands on her own. However, she needs help with her daily cares and transferring. I cook, clean, and do her laundry. This is the typical situation of many home healthcare jobs. Some home healthcare aides transport the individual as well, in addition to doing their shopping.
The long-term care system consists of an integrated continuum of many institutional and non-institutional providers who deliver extended care when needed. Long-term care providers deliver a variety of care to individuals with chronic, mobility and/or cognitive impairments/limitations. These providers include: nursing facilities, sub acute care, assisted living, residential care, elderly housing options and community based adult services (Pratt, 2010). A great majority of these providers are already taking care of the many baby boomers that are present today and will be present in the future. “Baby boomers” are individuals who were born between the years 1946-1964. Since 2011, every day 10,000 baby boomers turn 65 years old (Pratt, 2010). This
Upon growing older there are many decisions to be made. Among one of the most difficult and perhaps most important decisions is where the elder person will live and how long-term care needs will be met when he/she is no longer capable of doing so independently due to the incapacity that accompanies many with old age. Nursing homes seem to be the popular choice for people no matter the race, gender, or socioeconomic status with 1.5 million Americans being admitted to them yearly.[3] Because nursing homes are in such a high demand and are not cheap, $77.9 billion was spent for nursing home care in the United States in 2010 alone, they are under criticism of many professions including the legal profession, which is in the process of establishing elder law as a defense to issues with in the elder community. Nursing homes have a duty to provide many things to the elderly including medical, social, pharmaceutical, and dietary services so that the individual may maintain the highest well-being possible.[4] Stated another way 'a nursing facility must care for its residents in such a manner and in such an environment as will promote maintenance or enhancement of the q...

No one ever expects to live out his or her later years in life in a nursing home. When people are young they may not realize the obstacles in life that may cause them not to have a place or person to spend their older years in life with. Regrettably, many of the elderly are not treated with the care and respect they deserve. “Poor quality of care is endemic in many nursing homes” (Fernandez, 2011). It is the responsibility of the younger generation to make sure that the elderly are taken care of and that neglect does not happen. Nursing homes have too many patients and not enough care-givers compared to home care that has familiar one on one care. Home-based

Taking care of the individuals that are getting older takes many different needs. Most of these needs cannot be given from the help of a family. This causes the need of having to put your love one into a home and causing for the worry of how they will be treated. It is important for the family and also the soon to be client to feel at home in their new environment. This has been an issue with the care being provided for each individual, which has lead to the need of making sure individuals have their own health care plan.
Pa manages most ADLs independently with supervision and set-up from an informal support (Pa’s spouse). Without Pa's spouse's support, Pa would require high level services and oversight. Pa's spouse is independent and consistently available and able to assist Pa. Pa requires assistance in and out of tub due to fall risk, Pa is able to wash herself in a tub chair and the use of hand help shower, but Pa requires supervision when bathing due to uncoordinated movement from her DX of Ataxia and memory loss from the stroke. Pa reports to dress herself, but Pa’s spouse supervises. Due to Pa's inability to stand for long periods of time, Pa requires hands-on assistance with all IADLs including meal
"Who does a son turn to, when his 78 year-old mother, newly admitted to a nursing home’s rehab unit, is experiencing delusions and screams through the night? Or where does a daughter turn to for help when she notices a rapid decline in her mother’s health and her mother refuses to seek medical care? Or the gentleman who believes it is time to a continuing care retirement community, but has no one to advise him on the myriad of financial and lifestyle implications of such a move? (Lederman, 2012)." Within in the field of home health care, ecological system creates an outline for defining what it means to provide quality care to the elderly.
Aging in place refers to remaining in one’s home and community throughout the aging process (Siebert, 2007). Additionally, it can mean living in a supportive environment that allows participation in meaningful activities, and increases quality of life (Siebert, 2007). Home modifications help facilitate participation in meaningful activities, decrease falls, and support aging in place (Siebert, 2007). Home modifications are adaptations to the environment that meet the needs of an individual, and increase safety and independence (Siebert, 2007). Although aging in place is more than home modifications, the focus and the purpose of my project is to research how affordable home modifications can support lower socioeconomic status older adults, with aging in place. There are three objectives to determine if the purpose of this project has been achieved. The first objective is that the educational presentation and booklet were effective in increasing the participant's knowledge of low-cost options and funding sources for implementing home modifications. The second objective is that the
The thought of spending one’s golden years outside of the home, is one of the most depressing and unnerving things that an elderly or chronically disabled person would have to deal with. For many people, however, this is a reality that they must face. Long-term care organizations have begun to recognize the stigma that living in one has, and sought to end it by starting the Culture Change Movement. The Culture Change Movement is a nationwide movement that is geared towards the altering of services for the elderly, that is founded on a people based belief and practice system and allows the elderly and those that are in close contact with them to have their opinions, ideas, and views valued and respected. The goal of the Culture Change movement

Housing for older adults has a wide range of options based on the person’s needs and abilities. One type of housing that is offered for an older adult is a single family home, this allows the person to live on their own without having to worry about the feel of an apartment. A single family home to older people means security and independence, along with they have the comfort of being in an environment that are familiar with (Novak, 2012). As a person ages though a single family home may need modifications to ensure that it is still safe and adaptable to the person as they age. Home modification allows older adults to stay in their home longer and into late old age, which is what so many of them want due to they want to age in place (Novak,
