21st Century Race-Class Intersection will be a project that analyzes the current racial and class relationship through the form of a website. I am very intrigued by the unique racial formation theory of Omi and Winant and racial triangulation theory by Claire Jean Kim though in DOC class as well as dazzled by the strict racial hierarchy in United States history. Chapter eight form the book From Indians To Chicanos by Diego Vigil, talks about the intact and stable social order. There are three subtopics in this chapter the first one is the industrialism and urbanization in classes. The second one is assimilation vs acculturation and the third one is the color of the intergroup that has to do with racism. All these subtopics are important because it was what made the social classes get united or separated.

Overall, race, class and culture impacts one’s place in society. I have Four hundred years of history cannot be wiped away so easily. I realized that society has a long way to go and the importance of fighting all injustices. Martin Luther King captured it best by saying “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”.

They then use those components as a framework to analyze the specific mechanisms that are causing this change. In this framework they include typology of categories, which is the agreed upon boundaries that divide society by race, and as the means to measure the growing heterogeneity in this category they use survey data’s to analyze the shift in typology over time. The survey data’s show which racial categories individuals identify with while filling out these surveys, and by analyzing these data’s the authors were able to find out that over time people started to check multiple boxes/categories while identifying with their race. Secondly, the authors used classification of individuals, which is grouping people based on shared attributes. This is when individuals become part of a group by having shared or similar attributes that other members of the group identify with. The authors turned to science in order to identify the changes in this category. It was seen that over time the genetic makeup of individuals in different groups started to change, this can be due to reasons like interatrial marriages which allow the offspring’s to identify with multiple racial & ethnic categories. Then the authors use the relative position of groups, which is the social hierarchy of groups
In today’s world, the American still has barriers to overcome in the matter of racial equality. Whether it is being passed over for a promotion at the job or being underpaid, some people have to deal with unfair practice that would prevent someone of color or the opposite sex from having equal opportunity at the job. In 2004, Dukes vs. Wal-Mart Stores Incorporation was a civil rights class-action suite that ruled in favor of the women who worked and did not received promotions, pay and certain job assignments. This proves that some corporations ignore the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which protects workers from discrimination based on sex, race, religion or national origin.

The United States used racial formation and relied on segregation that was essentially applied to all of their social structures and culture. First of all, I must clarify that when I use the word race I intend to express the socially constructed idea that groups of people are categorized or can be rightfully by their appearance or ethnicity. Although I find the term significant only inasmuch as they are used in society, since the subject of this essay deals with the socially constructed idea of race, I too will fall into a language that I ultimately consider somewhat misleading. In today’s society, people criticize in others of their race, gender, abilities, age, etc., as those certain people are trying to destroy our humanity. Creating this situation in the social society, will affect the social, political, and economic factors in various countries, also starting a war between different race or ethnicity. The role of being diversity in modern society, gives people to communicate better and have more confidence to express our opinions or beliefs. Intersectionality, is a study of interaction between different groups with distinct aspects/appearances, in which they’re consider as inequality or discrimination, as it relates to my privileged life for being a Hispanic, low class, and educated male.
A social inequality that I would say I’m concerned with would be, racial and ethnic inequality. Racial or ethnic inequality is often established based on characteristics such as skin color and other physical characteristics, or a person’s place of origin or culture. Another meaning of racial inequality would be the advantages and disadvantages that affect different races within the Unites States. Race has become a socially constructed category capable of restricting or enabling social status. Racial inequality can lead to diminished opportunities, which can also lead to cycles of poverty and political problems. With this minority members in a society can result in discriminating actions such as; exclusion, oppression, expulsion, and extermination.
