Aidan can drive any car- automatic or standard. Not legally, but he can do it. 13 should be old enough, right? Wrong. In RI you need to be 16 to take the driver’s test and 18 to actually drive. Aidan wanted to dive his dad’s Chevy Camaro SS before it had to be put away for the winter. He got permission to go around the block as long as he didn’t make the gas go below 10% remaining. Well, He didn’t let the gas run out but he did run into a swarm of police officers. The police were puzzled when they saw Aidan in the driver’s seat giving the famous quip “Is there a problem officer?” “Well yes there is a problem matter of fact- you are a child driving a race car!” “Ok, I’ll put it back…” Aidan went home with the police escort and he was “let off …show more content…
Fortunately, the judge said they could go under-house arrest. “At least we are at home.” “Well I’ll miss school and you’ll miss work!” Their friends got together to protest for the judicial branch to be impartial- Lately, unfair laws have been being passed. The peaceful protestors got fines like no tomorrow and Aidan and his dad were still arrested. “In school before I got arrested, I learned that rights are made so that they can’t be violated. But look at us now.” Aidan’s mom came over and turned on the news. “This just in- 13 year old and father arrested for driving! Government reviews trial. We go interview the court members in their trial.” “Hey, it’s those mean court scum!” “Aidan what did you do?” “I drove a car, tell her dad!” “Your honor, why did you not let these men have a fair trial like everyone else?” “Well they broke the law and they need to be punished for that and that’s final!” “But sir, it’s not! Amendments 4-8 have been violated, what do you say about that?” “if you put it that way, I guess I am wrong. I hereby issue a seizure warrant to all police to take all criminals arrested today to court!” “Hey guys I guess you’re off the hook!” “I guess so. See you later
The issue that this case raises, is whether or not the officers had the right to search the car of a person who they just arrested, while the person is handcuffed and placed in the back of a squad car?
I. Facts: 15-year-old delinquent, Gerald Gault and a friend were arrested after being accused of making a lewd phone call to a neighbor. Gerald’s parents were not notified of the situation. After a hearing, the juvenile court judge ordered Gerald to surrender to the State Industrial School until he reached the age of minority (21). Gerald's attorney petitioned for a writ of habeas corpus challenging the state of Arizona for violating the juvenile’s 14th Amendment due process rights. The Superior Court of Arizona and the Arizona State Supreme Court both dismissed the writ affirmatively deciding that the juvenile’s due process rights were not violated.
A woman was raped at Central Park and was found unconscious. She recovered quickly after the incident but could not recall what happened on that day. On the same day that woman was raped all five teenagers were there but were at the opposite direction of where the rape incident happened. They were brought in by the police to be questioned and were asked about the incident. The police were interrogating the teenagers and yelled at their faces because they were getting frustrated that they were not getting the answers that they wanted to hear from them. The teenagers were getting tired from being questioned for about two days on something they knew nothing about and wanted to just get out of the place. The police told them to say certain things and told them things that they wanted to hear, which led to the teenagers believing that if they said what the police told them to say then they could leave. They ended up confessing to raping the woman on video and paper and that led to their arrest. Though there were no actual evidence proving they were there at the scene, it did not matter because the police just wanted the confessions, which was their goal from the
Davis, Robert. (2005, March 3). USA Today. “Is 16 too young to drive a car?”
They no longer had adults to tell them what and how to do things. The story just proves that when people are irresponsible and freedom gets abused, very bad things can happen. God has given us as human beings free will. Although if we make choices based on our own free will, we must be willing to take the responsibility for the effects that our decisions have on ourselves, on the people around us, and on society itself. Freedom, I believe, is the way in which people live or behave without others annoying or interfering in their affairs.
Thirteen: The Age of Adolescence Adolescence is the stage in life when you are no longer a child, but not yet an adult. There are many things that still need to be explored, learned, and conquered. In the film Thirteen, the main character, Tracy Freeland, is just entering adolescence. While trying to conquer Erikson’s theory of Identity vs. Role confusion, Tracy is affected by many influences, including family and friends, that hinder her development. Many concepts from what we have learned in class can be applied to this character, from identity development, to depression, to adolescent sexuality and more.
"Teen Driving." Issues & Controversies On File: n. pag. Issues & Controversies. Facts On File News
Some teenagers or children of the twenty-first century live their lives by the saying "you only live once" in the hope their lives will become exciting. They arrogantly ignore age limits that were created to protect them from the impacts of living by this widely misunderstood expression. This attitude towards age limits is stupid and irresponsible; only life threatening consequences will come from their arrogance. Everyone should take responsibility to guard the childhood of many from the negative impacts of age-restricted material by taking age limits seriously.
Engines roaring and cars flying down the highway recklessly, racing to the finish. This is a stereotyped outlook on teen drivers. This however, is not the case. Teens don’t drive to race down the road. They drive for freedom. They drive to get where they need to be on their own. The driving age should not be raised to 18 because it takes away their feeling of freedom, Denies the access to needed transportation, denies experience, It puts additional stress on parents, and they need to be learning the driving skill while they’re young.
One of the reason people say that the legal driven shouldn't be raised is because they think teens should practice at age of 15-17 so by the time they are 17 they will be ready to drive. This can be shown where the author writes, “ … how to drive around 14-15 easing they into gradually, and with supervision so that by the time they are 17 or 18… [and]... there some very young pro drivers.” (Eric, text-1) These quotes shows how they teens can be successful by training. But, guess what those people are wrong because driven is not all about training , it is also about your brain (how you react to things such as answering, text-messaging, and using phone during driven) and teens brain is not developed. This can be shown where the author states, “ a study done at the National Institute of mental health concluded that at the age of 16, the adolescent brain remains undeveloped in vital areas…” (Parker, text-2) This quote also shows that the author uses informative tone to show that teens brain is still not developed which is why the legal driven should be
How many of you know what social media is? I bet I’ll get “duh” looks by saying this because majority of the people know what social media is. How many of you have at least 3 social media accounts? Again, majority of us can relate to this also. Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and Twitter are all popular social media sites.
Today in the world you see how driving becomes an everyday thing, everybody uses a car to get to the destination they need whether it’s their job or just to go out. Many out there have their driver’s license, while others are just starting to learn how to drive to obtain their driver’s license. Everybody has always had an issue with what the right age should be to allow people to obtain their driver’s license and drive. While some people don’t argue with the age that teenagers should be allowed to drive, others don’t agree on letting teenagers get their driver’s license at such young age. People had always had various good reasons on why the driving age should be adjusted or why it should be left as it is. In my opinion and what I think is
In addition to teenagers gaining independence and freedom with a license, parents also gain more freedom as well. Teenagers who cannot drive rely heavily on parents, siblings, and other people to chauffeur them around. Not only does this cost more for the driver, ...
This is unfair to sentence a kid of 3 years old he is still a baby, don’t they have a heart how would they feel if there child was taken away, with his father also being arrested, the dad is the one that takes care of the family and they take him away. Before they take an innocent person to jail they need to make sure they have the right person and not destroy someone’s family by mistake.
The police officer took us down to the station and detained us. We were not there because we were the altercation starters. The reason they took us up there, was due to Monticello’s curfew. We had no idea they had a curfew, and we were well over the eleven p.m. curfew now due to the delay. We were all minors and we needed a parent pick up. “How was I going to explain this to my mother?” I thought to myself. I am supposed to be at my friend's house, spending the night… like I told
