Affects of Cyberbullying

Cyber bullying is continuing to rise with the increased use of Internet in our daily lives. What is Cyber bullying? It is the use of technology to deliberately upset someone. “Cyber bullying is becoming a growing problem in the U.S.; some states have even made cyber bullying illegal” (Dalton-Loomis). This topic hits close to home because my little brother was cyber bullied when he was starting middle school. Bullying occurring through many devices, the prevention and the results of cyber bullying are some of the main aspects of this paper.
When my brother started sixth grade, his teeth were a mess. A lot of people have crooked teeth before they get braces, so you wouldn’t think it’s a problem, right? Wrong. The kids in his class thought he would be an easy target to make fun of. So they would message him hurtful things about his teeth and his appearance, using their iPod touches and laptops. My brother finally got braces and started taking more advanced karate lessons to help him get in shape, and to learn to protect himself. Although nothing seriously bad happened to him, it still put a damper on the way he views some of his classmates, and he will have that scar for the rest of his life. He is currently in high school, with lots of muscles and straight teeth.
Bullies use a variety of methods to exhibit bullying. Text messages and phone calls are one of the easiest ways to contact someone. There is the possibility that you might receive nasty, threatening texts and calls persistently and anonymously. Someone could send cruel emails anonymously. Social media (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, MySpace) all aid in hiding behind a profile, some of which could easily be a hoax. Fake accounts can make it easier to get away wit...

In conclusion, this topic is very sensitive for me because this actually happened to someone close to me. Remember to ask question before being brought into the world of cyber bullying, and also look for the signs that people are getting bullied.
