Career Search: Auto Mechanics My career goal is to become an Auto Mechanic and Shop Owner. Being an Auto Mechanic intends to have a variety of skills such as: having knowledge on a variety of knowledge with different car companies, the ability to diagnose the problem quickly and repair it fast and to perfection. They also have to have knowledge on every car part and currently be great with electronics. A shop owner has to be good with business, numbers, customer relationships, have the knowledge of an Auto Mechanic. The talents that I have to become an Auto Mechanic and a shop owner are that I have basic knowledge on cars, their parts, where to get cheap parts, good speaking skills. I’m beginning to be able to do a diagnosis on a car, I’m also good at electronics. I also have a few mentors helping me out. To become an Auto Mechanic and a Shop Owner, you have to be certified and have a degree in business. To become a master tech, you need to get your ASE: Automotive Service Excellence certificates. He chose his occupation because his father has owned a shop since he was born and grew up with and he fell in love with it. If you enjoy doing any of these things this is the job for you. I for one love doing all of these things and therefore love anything in this line of work. My career path started when I was five years old. At five years old I wanted to be a fireman but switched to marines when I was ten. Prior to turning thirteen I did not want to be someone who uses ‘math’ all day and sits at a desk all day. In 2010 I joined a FLL team at Troy Christian Junior High School. I did not want to do this at first but after consistent encouragement from my father and mother, my father has a master’s degree and my mother has a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, I participated in all of the team functions. Car bodies are usually made of steel or aluminium. They both have different properties and prices ranges that make it ideal. Aluminium has a lower density meaning the car will be lighter than if it was made from steel. It also doesn’t corrode easily so a car made of aluminium will last longer than that made from steel as the steel contains iron which will corrode. In saying this aluminium is much more expensive, and although it has better properties is may take the price of the car up and over the limit that is wanted for it. Steel has many great functions for a car body. It is hard and strong because of the small amount of carbon content that it has which strengthens it. It is also added with small amounts of other metals to strengthen it even more.
