My career path started when I was five years old. At five years old I wanted to be a fireman but switched to marines when I was ten. Prior to turning thirteen I did not want to be someone who uses ‘math’ all day and sits at a desk all day. In 2010 I joined a FLL team at Troy Christian Junior High School. I did not want to do this at first but after consistent encouragement from my father and mother, my father has a master’s degree and my mother has a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, I participated in all of the team functions. While on the team I was exposed to SolidWorks and I appeared to have a talent for designing 3D models. I also was one of the few members tasked or voluntold to program the robot. I soon realized that not all engineers do math all day and I may have a talent for I entered this position wanting to be an electrical engineer and left knowing I am destined to be a mechanical engineer. I knew I was destined to be a mechanical engineer when I was comfortable with designing and building workstations and my coworker’s comment of my talent for mechanical engineering. I also learned from the CEO that engineers are not limited by degrees or fields and he is living proof that with just a high school education and shop class experience anyone can work for a company or start their own. Because of this example I learned that engineers can adapt to their environment and that mechanical engineering is the foundation of all of the other engineering degrees such as aerospace and manufacturing. In 2015 my boss’s company was given a project that required the project to be completed and at the factory before payment is given to my boss’s company. This project turned into a time intensive and fund consuming nightmare that resulted in the cutting of all inefficient
The earliest glimpse of my future was at an elementary career day years ago. When I filled out what I was going to dress up as I wrote the word, “farmacist.” My mom was a pharmacist and I looked up to her and wanted to be just like her! So when career day rolled around I dressed in a white coat carrying a big bottle full of M&M’s to dispense to my classmates. Now so many years later here I am actually about to take on graduate school and follow in my mother’s footsteps to become a pharmacist. Of course my career path has been less than a straight line from “farmasist” to pharmacist. My passion and talent for math and science in high school allowed me to seriously consider a career in engineering. However, the more I considered engineering, the more there seemed to be something missing. As much as I loved solving problems I did not see
In 2012 nearly 205,000 people were employed as a physical therapist in the United States. The average salary of a physical therapist in 2012 was $79,860 per year. Ever since I was a little girl, I have been dreamed of being a teacher. I wanted to decorate my own classroom, grade my students paper, and proudly display their colorful works of art on my walls. I planned on going to a small, private West Coast college to get my undergrad degree in child psychology and then later go on to an Ivy League grad school for my Ph.D in Bilingual Speech Pathology. But my sophomore year of high school, something changed. I started to fall in love with another equally as fascinating but completely opposite field of study, aerospace engineering. After my first plane ride earlier that summer, I started to research plane mechanics and safety technologies that are used by airlines in my free time. All of the concepts of
Thirty years ago when my parents left behind a comfortable life in South America to pursue opportunities that would truly change their lives, they had no idea they would be foreshadowing the recent events of my life. After working for two years as an engineer, I have realized something that I had suspected all along: I do not belong in the world of business or engineering. I need to be in a profession in which I can establish unique relationships with people by having a positive impact on their lives.
There will be a certain point in your life, when you will have to make a major life decision, from buying a car, to buying a house, to what career you want to have. Which university will you attend? What are you planning on majoring in? Are you going to move out after high school? What are your career plans? Questions I hear daily, yet remain unanswered. This is just a small part of the struggles we teenagers face every single day. Balancing school, extra curriculars, work and a social life all while maintaining physical and mental health proves to be practically impossible these days. Although our parents try their best to make our transition into adulthood as seamless as possible, it happens in the blink of an eye. One day you’re being treated like a child and the next you’re expected to be a well rounded young adult able to provide for yourself and handle the weight of the real world.
In this essay/report I will explain to the best of my abilities, my possible career path. I have wanted to be many things. In grade 1, I wanted to be a superhero, and that hope stayed out for a while. Later on, when I was 10, my brain started getting new ideas, exploring the world around me, thinking of other things aside form cartoons and I thought to myself, how in the world am I going to become a superhero? I started thinking of other jobs like firefighter, police officer, engineer, construction worker etc., etc. But then I decided it was no good. Then one day when I was watching an interview on TV, a firefighter was being interviewed and one of the questions was: How long did it take you to decide what you wanted to be? And he said a long time. Then I wondered how long a long time would be, I wanted to jump into the TV and ask the guy how long a long time was. Hmm, I wondered, how long is a long time and then I answered my question. “It’s going to be a long time ‘till it’s a long time, I’ve got nothing to worry about.” That question just flew off my mind until at the start of grade eight when I encountered this question again, and I answered it. It took a while and some research but I answered it. I want to be a Neurosurgeon when I grow up.
Transitioning from high school to college as an engineering major may gave given you the hope of not having to endure yearly written language arts classes. The truth is, however, as an engineer and as an engineering student towards your upperclassman projects, you will be tasked with writing proposals, technical reports, preliminary and critical design reports, status reports, manuals, marketing material, justifications and specifications, and this is only a summarized list. Moreover, depending on the negative impact your product could have if something were to go wrong, your reports, manuals, and instructions should be clear, and not open to ambiguity, in order to prevent misuse.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) has taken on many forms over the years. According to the Vocational and Technical Education paper: Current Trends, we’ve moved from the word vocational to career and technology education, professional-technical education, and workforce.
The career that I chose for my career research project was a football coach. When doing my career assessment for this project I discovered that I am a tactical learner. In the field I am currently in this field requires a lot of touching and carrying out certain plays for my team. This I believe is a really good match because this field requires a lot of physical endurance so I do believe that the learning styles assessment was on point with my career choice.
One of the decisions many high school students confront is what they want to pursue in life; some options are work, study at a university, or pursue a technical education. Some students chose to study at a university to explore different areas of studies to pursue. Every area of study has its own requirements in order to be successful in that area. In my personal career search, as many students experience, have the sometimes painful selection of what I want to do as an adult. It is that I have two professions that I would like to pursue, Architecture and Engineering. Many aspects may help select that career, including personal preferences, career path, employment rates, etc. The academic path of each one will be discussed as a reference point for a selection of a career.
Did you know that most credible experts agree that the national and global energy future, will be shaped predominantly by fossil energy? (“ The Role of Fossil Fuels in a Sustainable Energy System”). Can you imagine a world without cars, airplanes and transported goods? Petroleum engineers play a major role by providing advanced technology to maintain the supply and the demand for crude oil met at a national and international level. As many people know, this career requires major commitment and hard work. Someone interested in pursuing it, should become familiar with the job description, the skills needed and the job outlook to fully compromise to their journey.
