The number of deaths per year is approximately 55.3 million. About 42,000 of those 55.3 million deaths are suicides, but what reasons do people feel suicide is the only answer? Romeo Montague, in Romeo and Juliet, kills himself because he can not live without Juliet. Knowing each other for about three hours, they decided it was necessary to get married. They had to find a place where someone would allow them marriage. Friar Laurence was a pastor to Romeo and Juliet, so the two of them agreed Friar Laurence would be the one to marry them. Lord Capulet, having selected a husband for Juliet already, did not agree with Juliet’s decision. He wanted Paris to be the one to marry his daughter, not a Montague. During the 1590s the plague was a deadly disease. It wiped out 50% of Europe’s total population in the 14th century. Friar Laurence sent another Friar to tell Romeo the plan, but Friar John was not allowed into the city, so he was not able to deliver the message to Romeo. Friar Laurence was anxious to tell Romeo, but he was not able. Romeo did not know the plan to kill Juliet for 42 hours. Friar John stated, after Friar Laurence asked how Romeo replied, “Going to find a barefoot brother out, One of our order, to associate me, Here in this city visiting the sick, And finding him, the searchers of the town, Suspecting that we both were in a house, Where the infectious pestilence did reign, Seal 'd up the doors and would not let us forth. So that my speed to Mantua there was stayed” (5. 2. 5-12). Friar John was intended to go deliver to message about Juliet but was not allowed to go into Mantua. There was a deadly disease, so the Friar was not allowed to go any further into Mantua. Friar John’s quotation is showing the emotions he is feeling about delivering the message. He tells Friar Laurence how he wanted to deliver the message but was unable. Friar Laurence should have taken responsibility of telling Romeo himself.
