What Is Self Motivation Essay

938 Words2 Pages

Self-motivation is a form of empowerment. It is easy to fall under the impression that everything you do must be immediately gratified or that incentives will always help you push towards your goal without caring about the process in between. However, to me, self-motivation is a lot more than that. While you are painting, it is true that you look forward to the final picture, but what’s truly beautiful is that each stroke on the canvas is a mark of adventure, success, and a mark closer to your personal goal. For me, this mark means joining you at the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (H.A.C.U.)

Technology is increasing exponentially, and now I am a part of that ‘future’. When I look into my future, I see myself working toward the minimization of the human imprint in our world more specifically energy consumption. Being an Electrical Engineer, clean energy is an area that I am deeply passionate about. We are part of an ecosystem which is threatened every day by our wastes. Yes! We do use recycling, wind turbines, and hydraulics, but we need to take advantage of these to produce cleaner energy. To get closer to my passion, I will master in Mechanical Engineering so that I can have a clear understanding of the interactions of electronics and their mechanics. I believe every engineer should take some type of environmental courses to understand the direct effects of engineering in our surroundings. Therefore, one my academic goals is to study the environment so that when I create something I have thought of the ways it may impact nature. When I imagine my finish line, I see myself working alongside others who want to build a greener planet, who want to see oil-free oceans, and who can coexist with nature. I believe that engineering is the way to move towards this future and it is the reason why I decided to pursue it. In H.A.C.U, I will meet people who share similar views as me, who are willing to collaborate ideas, …show more content…

Working on research with my Electronics Design professor has taught me more of the technical side of engineering. For example, I learned how to use the Robot Operating System (ROS) and OrCAD to create simulations, to be creative with information, to view and interpret schematics and more. In addition to being a T.A. and researcher, I worked for a year on an engineering team project with Maple Leaf Farms to provide a light source for Amish duck farmers in Indiana and can truly say that it was an incredible experience that has taught me to work alongside people with different work ethic, beliefs, and views. Part of my responsibilities included creating simulated representations of various light sources on AutoCAD, concept design, contacting possible manufacturers, and keeping an open communication between the Amish, the professors involved, and the team. Now that I am applying to H.A.C.U., I would like to keep expanding on what I have learned so far but at the same time learn new skills. In my internship, I would love to focus on more hands-on engineering experience and to also become pro-efficient on a programming language. With my determination, perseverance, and experience, I truly believe that I have what it takes to be a part of the
