In the film WALL-E, setting plays an integral role in shaping the story. The setting gives background information on the events of the story and affects various plot points. WALL-E begins by showing Earth as a dystopian, apocalyptic wasteland almost entirely devoid of life. Remnants of civilization hint at Earth’s previous habitation, which ended following an apparent total environmental collapse.
