The text book definition of autonomous is “acting independently or having the freedom to do so.” (Oxford English Dictionary, 2017) The self-driving car does just this, although the technology did not start with fully autonomous capabilities at the beginning. A level system was adapted to determine exactly what level of autonomous cars there are. Steven Shladover (2016) explains in his article titled “The Truth About Self-Driving Cars” the difference between a level one and level three vehicle: “Adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping systems, belong to level one.” Therefore, one may conclude that several vehicles currently have some sort of autonomous technology incorporated already that is affordable to almost everyone. Skipping to a level three system, Shladover states these vehicles “…allow drivers to turn on autopilot in specific scenarios, such as freeway traffic jams.” Although many believe autonomous cars are an unsafe choice, and one that only the wealthy can afford, it is important to realize that the autonomous car is the transportation solution of the future because of its advanced technology, safety features, energy efficiency and impact, this car choice cannot be
