In the Movie Dark Knight Rises, Batman must confront Bane, who is an adversary of the justice in Gotham, to secure the peace and safety of all citizens. It was a difficult battle for Batman as Bane was almost always one step ahead of Batman until the end. However much entertainment that this film brought through its fight scenes and story lines, there were some concrete implications in how this relates to society today. Just as Batman was the protector of Gotham, the law enforcement is the protector of people, but unlike the world of fiction in the movie, there is no one to jump in and save the day if there is no support from the government. Crime is seen as a major problem in modern society, and it is seen to be a moral wrong yet in the movie the Dark Knight Rises, crime is continually occurring with majors villains like Bane indicating the people’s will to use their own force to achieve their own goals. The law’s goal is to make sure there is no advantage one could get simply through brute force or thievery, but the violation is often common with people that are willing to take easy method to fulfill their desires. In this sense, crime is not truly a violation of the norms because crime has become somewhat normalized throughout society. Batman has had to fight battle after battle in the movie Dark Knight Rises because the temptation is easy access is what crime brings. To follow the law is to limit one’s self, and that is why Batman has to work with criminals like Selena, the cat burglar, or use illegal method such as violence to put end to crime. The law enforcement has a limit to what they can do with their conformity to societal standards, but for Batman, to beat a criminal is to take whatever means of ending the problem. Batman is labelled a deviant because he is using his resources and abilities outside the scope of legal power, but a deviant protector may be what Gotham City needed. If Batman played by the rules, it is clear that he could not have saved Gotham if he hadn’t worked outside the system. Criminals do not follow rules, and that benefits them because they will always value their goals above, for example the lives of citizens. Batman is the true deviant because both the government and criminals follow their certain codes, but Batman is a one man crew that allows him to perceive his duties.
