A person's genes and other factors, such as child abuse, may contribute to developing this condition. People with an antisocial or alcoholic parent are at increased risk (Berger, 2016). It can be seen from the movie that Bruce was trying to rationalise his desire to kill Joe Chill with the reason of Bruce was looking for justice for his parents. But in depth, Bruce wanted to revenge to make him feel better from losing his parents at the young age. Besides, introjection occurs when Bruce incorporate some extravagant habits of other billionaires into his own ego such as buying luxurious sport cars, dating stars and party around with the people from upper class. Bruce becomes extrovert so he can maintain his billionaire image and cover up his persona of Batman. Batman is an introvert person because he does not want others to know his real identity. On the other hand, Bruce did incorporate some positive qualities of his father. For example, Bruce wanted to make Gotham a better place which was free of crimes like what his father wanted to help Gotham to be better city but Bruce does it differently. The desire to revenge for his parents triggered Bruce’s ego defense mechanism which is sublimation. Bruce wanted to put all the criminal behind the bars but his real identity, the billionaire in Gotham stop him from doing that. Hence, Bruce created the persona of Batman who has a strong morality. This can be proved by the symptoms that he shown at the end of the movie and he is considered fulfilling every symptom shown in the criteria of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition: DSM-5 (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). First, Harvey Dent has exposed to actual or threatened death of his lover, Rachel, and having a serious injury in the explosion. The other side of his face being burnt severely just like his favourite two-headed coin. He is directly experiencing the traumatic event which involved his lover's death. Besides, some of the intrusion systems have been presented to him after the sorrow event. He had the intense psychological distress at exposure to the external cues that symbolize his lost in everything which is his burnt scars on another side of his face. Other than that, he began to experience the alterations in his cognitions and mood after the event. He started to pose some persistent negative beliefs about the world. For example, he negatively thought that the world is cruel. Also, His ideas on justice changed as he thought the morality of this cruel world is "chance". His cognition also being distorted after the event as he blamed the death of his lover on everyone that may or may not involve in the event.
