I am lucky to have had amazing teachers in my past and members of my family actively involved in the teaching profession at a range of levels from classroom teachers to principal. This had fed my appetite for learning and in turn inspired me to become a teacher myself. Teaching the young minds about the world and all its wonders is, in my opinion, one of the most important things for society, if not the most important and satisfying. Although I’ve always had teaching in the back of my mind I made the final decision to pursue this career when I was employed as a Special Needs Teaching Assistant in a mainstream primary school for the academic year 2013/14. I knew I was privileged to be given this opportunity and I took full advantage of it. I wanted to learn as much as possible about the school environment and how I could personally make an impact. I attended multiple training days organised by the EA and collated resources to use with my pupils. As much as I loved my time as a TA I felt there wasn’t much room for movement and felt frustrated by this. I feel confident in my ability to be an effective teacher rather than just assisting. These experiences spurred me on to attend university with intention to be a primary teacher. I enrolled in an Access to Higher Education Course (History, Law and English Literature). Subsequently I applied and interviewed for multiple universities in the UK to study primary education through UCAS. I received offers from all my interviews. In July 2015, I broke my hip in three places during an epileptic seizure. This prevented me from taking the required skills tests which were essential to fulfil the offers. This unforeseeable obstacle therefore deprived me of the opportunity to follow my desired path. I was devastated, thinking my dream was over I contacted the institutions and explained my
