Teacher assistants help teachers perform different tasks in the classroom. They aim to work in such a way that allows teachers to focus solely upon teaching the students and setting tasks for them to complete. Classroom assistants provide support for teachers whilst they perform their daily tasks in the classroom.Teaching assistants are fundamental in the creation and implementation of educational programs. They provide solid ideas, support and additional perspective on the development and learning of students and therefore play a key role in helping to educate students. One of which is through helping to plan these educational programs. A planned program is a series of lessons on a topic or theme. Lessons in a planned program are sequentially linked or related to one another. Under the direction of a teacher, teacher assistants may work directly with students individually or in small groups to deliver activities that reinforce and advance the educational program. They also provide teachers with advice and suggestions. For example, they may assess how well students are functioning, administer tests (but not make judgments on test results), observe and document behaviours as students participate in learning activities and, where appropriate, help plan the educational program. Together with teachers, educational assistants enrich the educational program by helping students gain the knowledge and skills they need to function in the classroom, the school and the larger community. Objectives describe the desired student behavior or performance required as a result of a learning experience, are statements of what students should be able to do or do better as a result of having worked through a course or lesson, are short term in their orientation, generally have a narrow focus and are usually precise and refer to observable student …show more content…

Having more then one adult who can provide learning support is highly beneficial for students as there is more likelihood that their needs are being met. Not only can they assist with giving instructions, setting up resources, helping students with their movement, handing out supplies and enforcing rules to ensure focus but they can also provide beneficial one on one support to students who have additional educational needs. These needs may be as a result of cultural background, learning disorders, developmental delays and difficulties. These include non-english speaking backgrounds, specific learning difficulties, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Conduct Disorder., Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These additional needs can be identified through teaching assistants taking notice of students behavior including what they respond well to, what they do not respond well to, how they communicate with students and staff, their movements and their overall progress over a period of time. The conduct of students can then be documented in a detailed report which the teacher will receive and use to help decide if there are changes that need to be made to the student’s
