The movie Deliverance has many symbols due to its location and its wicked nature of the scenes. Its originating around Georgia in the sixties to the seventies. In these times in the united states that already represents are country trying to find our place in the world and what truly a country we are. You can compare this to the men learning who they truly were on this journey because they all came to learn their strengths and weaknesses from all of the hardships that they faced on their canoe trip. Most of the time in the movie you can see that the men are on the “Cahulawassee” River which is really the Chattooga river, but the river represents that there is only one way forward and there may be many unknown obstacles that will come your way. When they were going down the river after the rape scene Drew got shot when they didn’t even expect it. They didn’t even know what had happened until Lewis got shot in the leg. He is a natural leader and this all gets turned around when he is shot in the leg going down the river. He realizes that he is not always in control, nature is.
