Into the Great Wide Open Imagine pursuing a music career to only find out after an album it turns into a failure. This is what happened to a character by the name of Eddie in Tom Petty’s “Into the Great Wide Open”.
Eddie moves to Hollywood, California at the age of just 18. He has dreams of making it big in the music industry. Tom Petty explains Eddies’ adventure as an artist. The Poem “Into the Great Wide Open” by Tom Petty tells the story of the life of a young music artist, using a changing type of tone, in a realistic fashion. “Into the Great Wide Open” shows detail of a young rock star who has risen, then fallen off. It all started when Eddie finished his final year in high school. He moved out into crazy Hollywood, California, and got a tattoo. He went on to meet a girl who also had a tattoo, and they became a couple. During the relationship, they rented out a place in their budget, and moved in together. He first became a bouncer at a club, then learned guitar from his very own girl. That’s the moment Eddie knew he wanted to pursue a music career. The starting tone of Eds’ life was rather positive and optimistic. He got himself a girl, a place to stay, and a blowing up music career. He got an agent and his own roadie named Bart, and even some of his records hit the chart. But, towards the end it gets negative or also pessimistic. Ed gets sucked into the famous world. He starts buying expensive clothes, and partying a lot. Then his A&R man said “I don’t hear a single”, meaning Ed’s not focusing on his career.
