Single Parenting Essay

Children’s growth and development start at a very early age. Every child develops at their own pace. Through the stages of development, people are able to see the changes in their emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. A child may grow up to be loud and very outgoing while another may grow up to be quiet and reserved. Some may have more social, emotional, and behavioral problems than others. We know every child, every person is different. Some could have inherited characteristics from their parents. Or some may have picked up these “ways” by observing. Some children may not be in the best of places growing up such as being in a family where physical abuse is present, alcohol and drugs, or family issues between parents leading to divorces. Parents being divorced or having a parent walk out in the family and never returning could negatively impact a growing child especially witnessing the leave. What could also be a cause is the hardships single-parenting brings to children. It is not to say that all children raised by single parents would always have more problems than children raised by both parents because some families where the two parents are not getting along at all, or when one of the parents has their own problems such as alcohol and drug use, the best solution would be to separate and have the child stick to the parent who is stable and healthy. But even if a child is raised healthily in a single parent environment, there are many people who believe that a family is still the healthiest when there are two parents. When there are two parents in a household, worrying about income, being so busy that one cannot tend to their children would not be problems because the other parent could do the watching. Therefore, people ... ... middle of paper ... ...bring to a child. If people keep focusing on this idea, single-parenthood may always be negatively looked at by the public. A child is heavily impacted by the single parent he/she was raised by. Whether it is negative or positive, it is the parent’s responsibility. Gymnast Louis Smith, Barack Obama, SarahJane Funnell, Bradley Wiggins, Paloma Faith, to name a few, were brought up by single parents and they have all become successful in a way. We know there are more troubled children in single-parent households, but single-parenting as a whole should not entirely be looked at negatively. Although it may be difficult to get through the hardships especially for young children growing up, it is the parent’s ultimate job to ensure that their child is getting the healthy and happy lifestyle they need to take on the various factors that come along with single-parenting.
