The debate about whether gym class should be required or not has gone on for a long time. Some people say it breeds unhealthy competition and causes bullying. While others say it helps keep people healthy and stable. Though there is no one single opinion it seems to be generally accepted that is should be required. In addition, some schools add a wellness component to their gym class. This means that students may also be taught about things such as mental health, sleep, drugs and more. According to the CDC, a person who takes a gym class is more likely to have better grades, brain performance, school attendance and more. If this is indeed true gym class is a key component of a student’s school and life success because it fosters a healthier lifestyle leading to people being more mentally stable. Also According to the Harvard Health department exercising often can actually help to boost your immune system preventing you from getting sick. Staying healthy and not getting sick. One of the main concerns is that gym class may foster a level of competitiveness that is completely unreasonable and will get so out of hand that kids will be bullied. There have been countless stories over the years of gym being so competitive that kids have been bullied, which in turn caused some of them to be depressed. Also for many kids who are less athletic gym class may be very stressful to them because they may have a hard time doing something which in turn may come across as looking like they are being lazy, resulting them in being reprimanded rather than encouraged to improve.
