Conformity: Why Schools Should Support it In the morning before school, picking out an outfit can be difficult. There are many questions to consider like; “Do I want to be different?”, “What will people think of this outfit?”, “Does this show who I am?” This can be very stressful, and cause complications when it comes to identifying yourself and making difficult decisions. Problems that come with individuality can easily be avoided and refocused with conformity. School uniforms positively impact of the learning environment by ensuring student safety, psychological growth, and academic performance. The undergraduates will not have to worry about wearing an ‘unattractive’ outfit. Parents and their children will not have to worry about the prices of clothing or buying as much, because they will already be wearing a pre-set outfit. Buying a set outfit that the school mandates mean that it will be much cheaper than normal outfits that students would normally buy. Individuality is a way of expressing oneself, there are many ways besides clothing to accomplish. “Clothing, as a sign, conveys information about values, beliefs, and emotions. If the clothing that adolescents wear can be considered a sign, then one can perceive their clothes as an expression of personal identity” (Brunsma). “Make your own friends, form your own opinions and shape your own beliefs, even if you’re forced to look like everyone else” (Fetzer). But students can be individual in the classes they take like creative writing and also when deciding who they want to be friends
