Ocean Pollution Pollution has a big effect on are oceans. There's so many causes and it all leads up to one effect which is pollution. The ocean covers up ninety-seven percent of are world's water supply. Seventy percent of the oxygen we breathe is produced by some marine plants. So clearly ocean and its water is are main thing that keeps us alive. Pollution is unhealthy and horrible because there's a lot of plastic in the oceans, land based pollutants, and the careless human interventions. First off there's way too much plastic in the ocean that causes pollution. All of this stuff is caused by natural and manmade pollution. We have produced more plastic then we have in the last one-hundred years. The plastic kills fish, birds, marine animals, and sea turtles. The main effect of this plastic is pollution. In passage 3 it states that ” We have so much to thank the oceans for; however, they are threatened daily by natural and manmade pollution. Ocean pollution comes in many forms, but the largest factor affecting the oceans is plastic”. On the other hand the second big cause is land based pollutants which is oil, septic sludge, dirt, and trash. Septic sludge is like household wastewater. The oil can affect people's health and the animals. It can poison and contaminate are water and the marine animals. In passage 2 it states that” Although oil spills pollute the ocean, they only account for approximately 12% of the oil polluting the ocean. The rest reaches the oceans from land, through drainage”. There's also a huge garbage site off the coast of California twice as large as the state of Texas which its garbage washes into the sea polluting
Which means their obviously bad for the aquatic marine life environment & are cause many different forms of damage for them & us as one. On p.g. 23 of The New York Times upfront magazine “Birds,fish, sea turtles, & others are getting tangled in plastic bags or mistake them for food & choke”. Someone else might argue that they could the plastic bags in landfills instead of oceans. But that counter- argument is flawed because you’re just polluting by burning plastic which is bad on our part we’re not doing our part to support & taking care of the earth. Plastic in the ocean isn't just bad for plants & animals but for humans too because of the food chain some of us eat animals as a meat source such as aqua marine life like fish. If the fishermen catch fish that have been eating plastic then it's in our food supply if we eat that fish it's gonna be bad for us so many will end up getting sick from the plastic inside of the fish then what will we do our aqua marine food supply will go down the drain we couldn’t eat the fish since it's basically contaminated with plastic that we’re dumping there instead of trying to fix it & getting rid of plastic bags for good for the good of the earth. Ocean Pollution is a serious issue in today's global politics. The delicate balance of Earth's ecosystem is put in jeopardy when the ocean is not clean. Problem evolving from ocean pollution directly harm marine life and indirectly affect human health and the Earth's many valuable resources. Ocean Pollution is a Broad term that encpompasses any and all foregin matter that directly or indirectly makes its way into the ocean. This includes everything from the extreme: oil spills, Toxic Waste dumping and industrial dumping-- to the small scael: human activities and basic carelessness. Because the oceans and all other water bodies are invariably, somehow connected, and because they account for 3/4 of the Earth's surface, they are an ideal method of transportation for pollution, allowing the rapid spread of seemingly far away toxins into a river near you! It is increasingly important that we educate ourselves as to what, exactly, ocean pollution is, so that we can identify the causes at their source and take action in small and large ways, and hopefully, prevent this terrible form of pollution from getting any worse than it is today.

Water pollution has had devastating effects on the environment, which include irreversible effects on the oceans ecosystem. People often underestimate the importance of the ocean. They don’t realize how much damage pollution has caused to the ocean and the thousands of creatures that inhabit it. Earth is a huge place, but resources are actually very limited and will not last forever unless there is a balance. We must protect the resources we have in order for them to last into the next generation.

Oceans are the largest water bodies on the planet Earth. Over the last few decades, surplus human activities have severely affected the marine life on the Earth’s oceans. Ocean pollution, also known as marine pollution, is the proliferation of harmful substances in the water and is the primary cause of dead for many species whom live in there. Therefore, ocean pollution has various ways to enters to the ocean such as: sewage, large scale of oil spills and littering.
Run-off from manufacturing and disposal sites as well as accidental leaks continues to pollute our oceans with toxic chemicals. According to National Ocean Service, “Nonpoint source pollution includes many small sources, like septic tanks, cars, trucks, and boats, plus larger sources, such as farms, ranches, and forest areas. Millions of motor vehicle engines drop small amounts of oil each day onto roads and parking lots. Much of this, too, makes its way to the sea.”

Ocean pollution is a major threat to both marine life and ocean ecosystems. Changes can be made on global and individual scales to make a big impact towards preserving the oceans and saving its marine inhabitants. First off, The majority of pollutants going into the ocean come from activities on land. Natural processes and human activities along coastlines and far inland affect the health of our ocean. One of the biggest sources is called nonpoint source pollution, which occurs as a result of runoff.
The first and most common cause is sewage. Sewage flows through drainages that go directly to oceans or rivers. This makes the ocean have poor water quality, which can effect plants and animals living in the ocean. The world contain lots of industrial and agricultural places, which causes more waste being directly put into the oceans, this results in oceanic pollution. But, the dumping is not trash and sewage it is toxic liquids and it can be very hazardous towards marine life. There are approximately 14,000 oil spills a year, due to storms, accidents and etc. This is a huge part of ocean pollution. Oil can last for years in the ocean and can be really toxic to animals, suffocating marine life to death once the oil entraps them. Also oil is extremely hard to clean up out of water, this is why it lasts for years. Oil mining can also be a big cause to oceanic pollution. Ocean mines drill for gold, silver, copper and other minerals. This can cause damage to the lowest levels of the ocean and can increase the toxicity of the region. This method can also contribute with the leaking cause, sometimes there is oil spilling’s that happening while drilling. The final and last one that causes oceanic pollution is littering. Just like oil spills, this can be a huge part to pollution. Littering is when an object is blown away by the wind and ends up landing in the ocean, also because of humans making poor decisions in throwing trash into the ocean. Research from the University of California San Diego Scripps Institution of Oceanography said that species in the ocean consume a projected 12,000 to 24,000 tons of plastic every year in the Pacific Ocean (Nall, 2014). Pollution of recyclable materials in the oceans is one of the leading causes of why some marine species are nearing extinction. Many authors of articles and books analyzing this topic tend to agree that pollution of our oceans is a problem. The future of this problem is where their ideas tend to differ. The following four literature reviews attempt to demonstrate and support my belief that pollution is getting worse in the ocean and more marine life ecosystems are being affected, but there are things that we as humans can do
