Ocean pollution is a major threat to both marine life and ocean ecosystems. Changes can be made on global and individual scales to make a big impact towards preserving the oceans and saving its marine inhabitants.
First off, The majority of pollutants going into the ocean come from activities on land. Natural processes and human activities along coastlines and far inland affect the health of our ocean. One of the biggest sources is called nonpoint source pollution, which occurs as a result of runoff. Nonpoint source pollution includes many small sources, like septic tanks, cars, trucks, and boats. Plus larger sources, such as farms, livestock ranches, and timber harvest areas. Pollution that comes from a single source like an oil or chemical spill is known as point source pollution. Often this type of pollution has large

According to 2013 figures from the World Health Organization states that “When you flush the toilet, the waste has to go somewhere and, even after the sewage treatment works, there is still waste to dispose of. Sewage waste is sometimes even pumped untreated into the sea.”- ( When, Paragraph 4, sentence 3 and 4)
Lastly, Preventing marine pollution is good for the well-being of the sea. Cleaner oceans mean we can continue to enjoy our beaches for swimming, fishing and recreation, but how can we fix this? Studies have shown that about 80 percent of marine pollution comes from the land. So, one of the main ways to reduce marine pollution is to get rid of rubbish carefully, wherever we are. “If we reduce the amount of rubbish we make on the land it is likely there will be less rubbish in the ocean.”(If, paragraph 2, sentence 3) Another good way is to make little changes in the way we live because it can go a long way to reducing energy use—and carbon emissions. Try drying laundry on a clothesline or rack instead of in the dryer. Walk, bike, take the bus, or carpool to work or
This problem may seem prevalent and it is very important to know about. It affects marine life in many ways, but humans are also greatly affected.by this problem. People don’t realize what this problem does to them. However the human race can always work and solve this issue. People shouldn’t dump trash in the ocean or any water source. Trash can destroy coral reefs and other important ecosystems and ruin marine life. Most important sewage plants shouldn’t dump raw sewage into the ocean because it provides nutrients to harmful algae. Governments around the world should put more restrictions on sewage and the disposal of it. But if the solution wants to be solved people must work together.
Do you know that people are polluting oceans in so many ways, and what we are doing about it. First, my evidence shows that two billion people within thirty miles of the coast create 100 million metric tons of coastal plastic waste (Doc.1). In my own words, this evidence show that all this pollution is really harmful to ocean creatures and us. More evidence is that the North Pacific Gyre has collected lots of these pollutants, so it is nicknamed the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (O.I.). This shows how we are polluting the oceans. My next evidence shows that a Beach Act was passed in 2000 saying the EPA or the Environmental Protection Agency will help states test and monitor coastal water pollution to protect swimmers (Doc.2). This evidence
Source 4: A few reasons why beach pollution is happening is because Trash and other materials that beaches rivers, bays, estuaries and oceans eventually wash up on our beaches. It includes plastic bags, bottles and cans, cigarette filters, bottle caps, and lids.Any trash that is not thrown away and is just thrown in the beach and is in the sand can eventually go into the beach and make the water dirty.A lot of people just throw the trash in the water because they do not care. Some people are too lazy to go throw it away in the trash can.
Ocean Pollution is a serious issue in today's global politics. The delicate balance of Earth's ecosystem is put in jeopardy when the ocean is not clean. Problem evolving from ocean pollution directly harm marine life and indirectly affect human health and the Earth's many valuable resources. Ocean Pollution is a Broad term that encpompasses any and all foregin matter that directly or indirectly makes its way into the ocean. This includes everything from the extreme: oil spills, Toxic Waste dumping and industrial dumping-- to the small scael: human activities and basic carelessness. Because the oceans and all other water bodies are invariably, somehow connected, and because they account for 3/4 of the Earth's surface, they are an ideal method of transportation for pollution, allowing the rapid spread of seemingly far away toxins into a river near you! It is increasingly important that we educate ourselves as to what, exactly, ocean pollution is, so that we can identify the causes at their source and take action in small and large ways, and hopefully, prevent this terrible form of pollution from getting any worse than it is today.
We, as humans, need to take action, be accountable for our oceans and prevent the waste we produce from entering our waters. On a daily basis, thoughtless men, women, and children are polluting our waters and killing our marine life.

The ocean is an abundant source of life. It is home to thousand of different creatures, provides a great source of food, and provides the earth with about one half of the oxygen needed to sustain life. (National Geographic) Pollution especially plastic, is a catastrophic problem. Ironically plastic, which is a material designed to last forever is generally used for things we tend to throw away. Every year about one hundred to two hundred billion pounds of plastic are manufactured. Only 31% of that plastic is actually recycled. Biomass packaging estimates 10% of that plastic ends up in the ocean annually. About 20% of it coming from ships and other platforms, and the other 80% coming from land derived sources, such as international garbage dumping, winds or tides either way it finds its way to the ocean.(Biomass Packaging Co., et al)
The article indicates that the influences of oceans pollution that made by humans and caused by a phenomenon called “dead zones”. First of all, there is a great amount of plastic in the ocean which causes massive consequences for animals of the entire marine food web. On the other hand, “Dead zone” also affect Earth’s oceans. “Dead zones” can formed by many causes, such as natural causes, climate change, along human activities and industrial waste. These is a national problem and humans need to have some regulatory mechanisms. Therefore, it can helps the “dead zones” reduced. The author mentions that the US Environmental
John F. Kennedy once said “We are tied to the ocean, and when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch - we are going back from whence we came.” So how do you feel when I tell you that our beloved oceans are killed by you everyday? How do you feel when I tell you that our oceans, the ones you swam in yesterday, or when you were a kid, are now being turned into a massive, landfill for plastic waste? The clear blue ocean you may have once remembered looks far different now.
Our oceans take a large beating every day by the extremely large amount of pollution humans produce. Our society easily dumps their waste into the oceans to dispose of the excessive amount of garbage, sewage, and chemicals, but this small and simple solution is creating an even bigger problem. The way humans dispose of their wastes is causing the death of our beloved marine life. Not only are we killing off our animals, our food source, and our resources, we are also minimizing our usable water. By having a better understanding of the problem on the severe dumping, it will be easier to find ways to help minimize the pollution that is going into the ocean.
Pollution of the oceans have been a big problem in the world, and it seems that these problems are not getting better. People keep talking about how we need to fix this problem, but no one seems to act on it. Ocean pollution is terrible for not just fish, but humans also. All this is also avoidable, the majority of the oceans pollution is man made. We are just hurting ourselves by doing this, but people continue to put stuff in the ocean. There is a clean up process for all of this, but it is not easy. Much is at harm from ocean pollution and it should be treated.
Research goes to show that approximately 80 percent of marine pollution comes from land pollution. So, one of the key ways to reduce sea pollution is to carefully reduce land pollution every chance we get. One of the major sources of land pollution are plastics. Plastics that finish off as ocean rubble contribute to habitat destruction and trap and kill tens of thousands of marine animals each year. To limit your influence, carry a reusable water bottle, store food in non-disposable containers, bring your own reusable bag when shopping, and recycle whenever
Today's waters are constantly being treated like sewage dumps or trash cans. We use them as garbage cans every day polluting the water more and more. "Pollution is often by way of rivers, drains and outflow pipes." Causing an outflow of sewage into our ocean waters. This is not only affecting the community but also the marine life and other sea creatures living in the ocean." This pollution includes human sewage and domestic waste water, factory outflows of acids and poisonous metals, engine oil from roadside drains and garages, farm chemicals washed off the land by rain, building-site rubble, nuclear waste from power plants, and oil from wells, refineries, and tankers." Stating that most of today's waste is from factory or factory ran products that shouldn't be polluting the water
We have read the facts, examined the problems and found solutions. We have come up with ways to end it, but we just need to get to work on getting the word out. If we teach everyone about this issue, more people will become aware of ocean pollution. Let us solve this issue because we deserve a clean ocean and a clean earth. Bibliography:..
Research from the University of California San Diego Scripps Institution of Oceanography said that species in the ocean consume a projected 12,000 to 24,000 tons of plastic every year in the Pacific Ocean (Nall, 2014). Pollution of recyclable materials in the oceans is one of the leading causes of why some marine species are nearing extinction. Many authors of articles and books analyzing this topic tend to agree that pollution of our oceans is a problem. The future of this problem is where their ideas tend to differ. The following four literature reviews attempt to demonstrate and support my belief that pollution is getting worse in the ocean and more marine life ecosystems are being affected, but there are things that we as humans can do to change this. Imagine a world where we didn’t have to constantly worry about the vicious cycle of humans affecting animals and then animals in turn affecting us through consumption.
