Primary ethical dilemma In this case, the issue here is whether to accept Mercy’s request and hire her nephew Mike or not. It is unethical to hire a less qualified candidate rather than a better one for one’s own personal gain (in this case getting a house without paying any commission). On the other hand, the best candidate is not always the right person for the job. As a human resource manager, I should take various things into consideration when making my hiring decision such as people that will be affected by the decision. These are called stakeholders and will be discussed further in the paper.

They will work with the person hired so as a human resource manager I am responsible for providing them with the best person possible who will enable them carry out their duties more effectively. The more skilled and qualified the worker is, the better it is for other employees as this will reduce the load they have to carry.
Candidates who applied for the job also need to be considered. By hiring one person, the other candidates have lost out on the potential opportunity. Ethics demand that I should be fair in making my decision and consider every qualified candidate who has applied for the position. Under Federal law, every candidate should have an equal employment opportunity. An employer should not discriminate at any stage of the hiring process from reviewing résumés, to the interview and the final selection of the employee.
Government is another important stakeholder I must consider before making this decision. According to Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), all Canadians have the right to be treated equally in the workplace (both current and potential employees). The government has put in place laws such as the employment equity act to achieve equality for all. This means my decision must not go against any law the government has put in
