Canceling sports from schools has been debated by parents and school districts for a while. But, what people need to realize is that sport programs can make problems. Therefore, schools should ban sports to save money, make it easier for the students to improve their grades, and give them more time for themselves.

Sports have played a large role in multiple schools for a while but it's also an interference in school budgets. According to an article by Amanda Ripley, “In the spring of 2012 Premont Independent school district in Premont, Texas, was in trouble. The state had threatened to shut it down for financial problems and academic failure.”, so the superintendent decided to cancel their sport program (10). As a result the superintendent of that district learned that they could have saved $150,000 in one year (Amanda Ripley 11). This is important because schools suffer after losing money since they have to pay for more important things like supplies for students. This shows that sport programs need to be canceled in all schools in order to save money. …show more content…

According to Amanda Ripley, “Fall of 2012 at Premont was eerily quiet. There were no Friday night games to look forward to, no cheerleaders making posters in the hallway.”, however, there was an upside from the cancellation (11). Stated by Amanda Ripley, “That first semester, 80% of students passed their classes, compared with 50 percent the previous fall” (11). This shows that sports can be an interference in student’s academic life since it is to chaotic with pep rallies and games. This data proves sports are distracting for students which makes it very difficult for them to concentrate and focus on their school
