Are you willing to give up the control of your own vehicle to possibly decrease or maybe even stop traffic related deaths and injuries? Over the years, that number continues to grow; now finally we’re doing something about it. Google have designed one of the few autonomous vehicles that exist today and they are currently testing them on public roads in busy cities. Some scientists believe that autonomous vehicles might lower or possibly even stop traffic related deaths and injuries. Since last year, according to Amanda Hoover, “Traffic related deaths have increased by 10.4 percent” (Hoover. Para. 5). Autonomous vehicles are a very clever idea. For example, Amanda claims that “Autonomous vehicles don’t have problems focusing on what’s in front of them and they are programmed to follow the law” (Hoover Para. 10). If all vehicles on the roads were self-driving, traffic related deaths and injuries would drop dramatically. Unlike humans, autonomous vehicles permanently follow the law. They don’t speed because they are in a rush, or skip red traffic lights. Additionally, she also said, “Some have said that [by] replacing human-driven cars with a fleet of autonomous vehicles [this] could eradicate all traffic incidents.” (Hoover. Para. 14). If all human-driving cars where replaced with these intelligent vehicles the roads would be much safer because all the vehicles would follow the rules. These vehicles don’t quickly get impatient, irritated, tired or distracted. If human drivers were to try and fully focus on the roads and what’s happening in front of them, they still wouldn’t drive as well as self-driving cars because they can’t concentrate for extended periods of time and they can’t react as fast as a computer. Attorneys can charge up to $1,500 for each case they are involved in. Basically, attorneys can like off of the peoples mistakes of driving under the influence, and simple traffic accidents. Could you imagine a world where there would be no accidents and traveling via automobile would be more efficient, faster, and safer? Since 81% of car crashes are the outcome of human error, having self-driving technology would take a lot of the danger out of the equation entirely.(Citation?) There would be way that the computer in the car would become distracted which is a leading cause of accidents. I still don’t understand why people keep over thinking the concept of self-driving cars. These types of cars are built to make safe and smart decisions on the road.
