As self-driving cars have become more popular in 2017, plenty of states have introduced legislation in support of these interesting vehicles. What you may not know is that the government expects self-driving systems to make people pay more attention to the road. Having an interest in these types of cars myself, I believe that the government is doing the right thing. There are many benefits of self-driving cars and with the government taking effect, everyone will have a self-driving car in no time. The former president, Barack Obama, has even commented on this issue. In his opinion piece, he stated that self-driving cars can save lives, but “Americans deserve to know they'll be safe today, even as we develop and deploy the technologies of tomorrow.” When a person is driving a self-driving car, the technology used behind it is not always valid, so they must be vigilant of any errors. Not to mention, with the government interacting into the policy, we may have safer vehicles in the years to come. Self-driving may be a more respected concept, but we must perfect it before full implementation.
