Revisiting the Second Amendment: A Proposition for Stricter Gun Control

The second amendment grants all Americans the right to bear arms. The ability to hold a firearm at any time as long as the firearm is registered. In the United states, all it takes to hold a firearm is a background check and a safety class. In a short reading from the “American Now” book a short article By Christina Tenuta called Responsible gun ownership saves lives she asks “do Americans really need guns?”, but are the guns really the problem? Although the second amendment requires some decent documents , the qualifications to obtain a firearm needs to be revised to a mental check, a family history check , and also to make it a priority for reinforcement to check on the registered firearm every six to twelve months.

There are many good people out there, and sometimes they are to good. In some circumstances, someone might buy a firearm and a relative that did not meet the qualifications to obtain a firearm just ask to use it to go hunting. Something that simple as a family member asking to try out another qualified family members firearms can put many lives in danger. Many people will not think a family member would be capable of taking a life or their own and that trust is what put many others lives in danger. Another reason as to why a family background check needs to be enforced is what if the person that obtains the firearm lives in the home with a known criminal? In a short reading from the “American Now” book a short article By James Stancliffe called Guns Act As a Force Multiplier endangering everyone he states that his “main issue with guns is that they act as a force multiplier”, and this is true if falling into the wrong hands. By giving someone with a criminal family member access to a firearm is just like giving that known criminal access to that firearm also. One last reason a family background check needs to be enforced is if there are children in the house. By Setting up a routine check on the firearms it will decrease gun trafficking, make sure of no lost or stolen firearms, and Confirm that they are stored and locked away properly. The reason a routine check will decrease gun violence and crack down on gun trafficking is because it would make it more noticeable if someone was to have a huge number of firearms in the residence . If an officer was to notice that there are ten guns registered to a person and the person only has 2 firearms at the residence or the officer notice that there are many gun coming and going through the individual home It would indicate that the officer would need to further investigate that individual.Many gun violence altercations include stolen or borrowed firearms, and this precaution would help get some of the gun trafficking under control. Doing a routine check will also keep law enforcement up to date with any lost or stolen firearms . being up to date with that will give the reinforcement a head up or leads that there is a possible threat to look out for. In some circumstances people lock up their firearms and keep them locked up in case of an emergency, this precaution will keep the civilian up to date also. Doing this routine check will also ensure that the firearm is up and away in a safe place or lock box where children and just anyone can not get to
