The first time I went to the matterhorn was on a snowboarding trip with friends. The world of snowboarding is filled with excitement and vast wonders that quenches one's hunger for adventure. This experience is not only exciting but takes you through beautiful scenery with new things to see every day. The feeling one gets when speeding down the mountain is one of a kind. Snowboarding leads to a vast world filled with fresh powder and hard ice along with huge chairlifts that whisk you up the mountain Throughout this environment many new events and experiences. The matterhorn Stands a staggering 14,692 feet high. But you don't really understand how high that is until you take the first of three lifts up the mountain. You couldn't start up the mountain until 9 am. But the first lift Is a cable car, that is so far from the ground you automatically hold onto something and in no time the people and buildings shrink from your view. The wind begins to howl and the anticipation begins to build. When you look down at the tree tops and out into the valley its breathtaking. The next two lifts are your standard open ski lifts. Just a chair on a …show more content…
We were smiling and hooting because we knew this ride would last the day. From the top to the bottom. The trail we were taking was the longest trail we had ever taken in two years of snowboarding. By the time we stopped at one of many bars and restaurants on the side of the mountain for lunch. I was exhausted and starving so I ordered bratwurst and fries and had a pint of pilsner. Which had become one of my favorite. During my travels in Europe. I found out fast that alcohol hits you hard at high altitudes. My friends laughed and teased at how quick I had gotten a buzz. Until they tried it. Then in our brilliance we decided we had to finish the trail, and we were off again. Our belly's full, our heads slightly fuzzy and our hearts full of
Imagine being on the top of the world, on a bitter cold mountain, over top of an enormous crowd. Below where you stand, the lustrous lights are shining on a massive jump, that seems larger than the mountain itself, created for the professional snowboard competition. This gargantuan jump will decide whether you win or lose the competition. Becoming a professional snowboarder has been a dream to me ever since I first was beginning to snowboard. Being on top of the enormous slope and strapping into my bindings instantly made me relaxed and put a grin larger than the slope itself on my face. Everytime I glide down the face of the mountain I become focused and dialed in on my riding. When becoming a professional snowboarder as an occupation, I would
Finally reaching the top was the greatest feat we could have ever accomplished. Being at the top of the mountain was like standing on top of the World. Looking down over the surrounding farmland and towns one could really appreciate the wonder that is Nature. The World below so tiny one could pick it up and make it snow by shaking it, just like one of those snow globes.
The mountains were tall (11,000 feet +) and covered with bright powdery snow. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. I was eager to set-up camp and prepare for our nine day hunt. But, Dad said that we had to drive around and check out all the good places, just to make sure that we were in the best area. This was partially understandable, but since I am a teenager I'm not supposed to understand anything! So, we spent another several hours driving. We went up and down through the mountains and then we saw it. The spot was beautiful; it was right on the edge of a vertical drop-off, over looking everything. It was like paradise, but colder!
Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him” (G.K. Chesterton). A soldier is a soldier no matter what. If they fight behind a screen, on the front line, or from a controller as long as they’re protecting this country, the people in it, and the people fighting for it they are honorable. Some think that because one does their fighting from a remote control drone means that they have no understanding of war, and in some ways that is true, but they are still taking someone’s life when they choose to press that button just like the solders on the front line takes someone’s life when they pull the trigger. Both people are fighting the same fight: they love the country they are defending the people in it they just do it from different standpoints. Drones
It was going to be the time of our lives. Four buddies of mine and I went out to Jackson, Wyoming to do some of the best snowboarding of our lives. It was our chance to get away from home for a week and have the best time of our lives. The trip out there was extremely boring driving through Iowa, Nebraska, and Wyoming. Possibly the three most boring states in the country.
If you're a nature lover, Ober Gatlinburg might be the perfect place for you. The Smoky Mountains are right next door, and their spectacular views, rich wildlife and long hiking trails are all but guaranteed to leave you speechless. Gatlinburg itself is filled with fun places to visit, such as Ripley's Aquarium and Odditorium, the Sky Lift, and the many shopping malls and museums. During the winter season, the Ober Gatlinburg Amusement Park & Ski Area is a must visit for anyone interested in ski sports.
The magnificent Mt. Everest; a scenic natural location that has been a place famous for mountaineering for years. However, people have been debating whether or not Mt.Everest should be closed down temporarily for safety precautions or if the dangers should be supported. I am an opponent towards mountaineering because of the dangers involving both the people and nature involved.
Riding down Pikes Peak was one of the best adventures I have ever had, however, it was horrifying at times. Our whole vacation in Colorado was full of adventure. We rode ATVs, went white water rafting, but the best part was riding a bike down Pikes Peak. This was an exhilarating adventure I will never
Albert Einstein once said “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that is it stupid.” Sir Ken Robinson stated that schools are destroying children 's creativity with their curriculum, there are many facts that support this idea. Students are required to think a specific way, prepare the way teachers want them to be prepared. Students also have their own opinion, because they are not afraid to be wrong, and need a way to move forward.
A few winters ago, some friends invited my family and me to go snow skiing at Paoli Peaks, Indiana. I did not know how to snow ski, and I leaped at the thought of trying this new sport. On the first morning we entered the pro shop to rent all the gear and make decisions about whether or not to take lessons or go it alone. We decided to be adventurous and go it alone—no lessons. Kent and Celeste, the friends who invited us, knew how to ski and snowboard. He assured us that he could show us the basics, and we would be on our way down the slopes. All of us, after a few minutes learning how to wedge our skis started down the family trail. Although the family trail had smaller hills and appeared safe, to me it seemed way
By 4 PM we had conquered most of the peaks. As we were climbing what we thought was our sixth peak, Big Red, a storm struck. It was a cold driving rain that froze us as we struggled up the mountain. We reached the top jubilant, but exhausted. As the crew tried to get a bearing I came to the slow realization that we were not on Big Red, but another peak. We had two peaks to climb, and in freezing rain! With no options, we hiked on.
I was the first person to ski off of the chairlift that day; arriving at the summit of the Blackcomb Mountain, nestled in the heart of Whistler, Canada. It was the type of day when the clouds seemed to blanket the sky, leaving no clue that the sun, with its powerful light, even existed anymore. It was not snowing, but judging by the moist, musty, stale scent in the air, I realized it would be only a short time before the white flakes overtook the mountain. As I prepared myself to make the first run, I took a moment to appreciate my surroundings. Somehow things seemed much different up here. The wind, nonexistent at the bottom, began to gust. Its cold bite found my nose and froze my toes. Its quick and sudden swirling movement kicked loose snow into my face, forcing me to zip my jacket over my chin. It is strange how the gray clouds, which seemed so far above me at the bottom, really did not appear that high anymore. As I gazed out over the landscape, the city below seemed unrecognizable. The enormous buildings which I had driven past earlier looked like dollhouses a child migh...
Thin air encompasses me as I commence the final day of skiing at Vail, Colorado. Seven days of skiing elapse rather painlessly; I fall occasionally but an evening in the Jacuzzi soothes my minor aches. Closing time approaches on the final day of our trip as I prepare myself for the final run of the vacation. Fresh off the ski lift, I coast toward the junction of trails on the unoccupied expert face of the mountain. After a moment of thought, I confidently select a narrow trail so steep that only the entrance can be seen from my viewpoint.
Many don’t realize that the road to success isn’t so much a road as it is a winding,
