Samson was a judge who lived on the land of the Isrealites. After reading the chapters from the book, "Courageous Faith. I have learned a lot of information that I did not know before. From Judges chapter 13 through 16 we have seen that God was the one who chose Samson to be a judge. I have chosen Samson because I can relate to him more than the others. One difference that I found between Samson and I is that all the obstacles that he went through, I did not go through. Samson's life was planned by God. It was not a choice that he had made personally, and yet he violated all the restrictions during his life that brought him into a very tragic end. To say, I have learned a lot throughout that relationship. The relationship had me disobeying my parents and God. I was more in a relationship with the boyfriend than I was with God. I have realized that I have put God out of my life because I chose someone else over him, but through it all, God was always there for me. It was not too late, I realized that I was blind, that I was heading in the wrong direction, and I got on the right track after several people have talked to me about what is right. The guy was not the best guy for me because our relationship was not perfect. Although, I graduated high school with a 3.8, that was only because God was there for me. After high school, and after breaking up with my ex boyfriend. I have grown mentally, spiritually, socially, and academically. God has open doors in my life wherever I go. I started to read God's word and following His ways, then I realized that there are no better relationship than a relationship with God. I was similar to Samson because I have rejected God's way, and for all of us who are in this class, I will encourage you to stay strong, and to never give God up for anything. Overall abbot Samson was a good abbot who was respected by his piers and by the people that followed under his rule. He was wise and was very good at maintaining the land he controlled. He also was able to pay of most of the debts that were created under abbot Hugh’s term. Abbot Samson had created new buildings and had appointed new management for the land in order to keep the land maintained and at peace. He listened to the king and the pope who were his superiors and there was never a serious issue while abbot Samson was in term.
After reading Courageous Faith: Life Lessons from Old Testament Heroes, the biblical hero I most relate to is Joshua. Joshua succeeded Moses as the leader to lead the Israelites into the promise land. The promise land was prosperous but filled with many strong cities and armies. Joshua had to place his faith in God and His promise that the Israelites will conquer the land. Joshua and the new generation of Israelites had faith in God and they went into the promise land even without a battle plan. They placed faith in God before their fears and concerns. “God was telling Joshua to put Him first, and then he would be prosperous and successful” (Hindson, 77). If people were asked to describe a judge or leader for the Israelites, imaginations might conjure up a pious, older man paying strict adherence to the Mosaic laws and Codes of his people. One would not call to mind a young man with superhuman strength who drinks, fights, gambles and goes whoring whenever the spirit moves him. Samson fits the latter description, a very unlikely vessel for the Holy Spirit. Even more remarkable is the realization that Samson was exactly the way God wanted him to be—a hell-raiser. Why would God pick such a rabble-rousing rogue to be the champion of freedom for His chosen people? Because Samson was a catalyst meant to disrupt the complacency of the Israelites with regards to their subjugation to the Philistines—the proverbial lit match to the powder keg. He was also created to serve as an archetypical folk hero for his generation and those to follow, a larger-than-life symbol to remember and take heart from when things got tough.
Samson was a Nazirite that was given to his parents by God to save the Israelites from the Philistines. Samson was known for his incredible strength. There were many rules that Samson was supposed to follow in his life that he broke. Samson suffered the consequences of breaking the rules and losing faith in God. As I’m sitting here typing this, I thought this assignment would be easy but it’s not. How do you explain who you are in a paper? Where do I begin? Well, for starters, my personality, ambitions, and what I love doing should be the best standard for defining my character. One should never be anxious if they do not know everything about themselves, as we are constantly learning and discovering new features of ourselves. Personally, I am satisfied knowing my friends are worth it and consider me an asset. I’m the shortest one in my group of friends which puts me somewhat the end of the ladder. Someone might judge me just because of the way I look or act but, if they could just get to know me even more and see my personality they can see me in a whole new way.

My parents have always been extremely religious and I've been forced into the Catholic faith since birth. From church classes to prayer groups and regular mass, I was spending up to 8 in church each week. Since coming to TJ, I have little to no time to attend religious services. My parents have even tried to increase the amount of time spent because they think I will have "a stronger faith". The problem is that I don't believe in my religion. They never understand that attending church is absolutely boring, I fall asleep during the mass (which, I know, is extremely disrespectful), and have a sour attitude for the rest of the day. Every Sunday. Stares and disappointment. I sat with my grandmother at this big church. People would stare when they realized I didn't know the prayers or songs. I was trying to learn more about religion why did I feel so scared? Am I going to find where I belong? Will I have enough time? These are questions I sometimes have to ask myself. When I was little I explored many religions but now that i'm older I am frightened about faith.
I had allowed my very own insecurities and the words of someone else to keep me from fulfilling my dreams and from experiencing the possibilities that were ahead of me. I had shut down all of my plans without even giving them a shot! Soon after making this realization, I decided to recommit myself. I asked myself, “What’s the worst thing that can happen?” I definitely did not have the money or the grades at the time, but I refused to give up on myself. If things didn’t turn out how I wanted them to, at least, I could say that I never gave up on myself. I began to work on myself academically, spiritually and emotionally. First, after asking my school guidance counselor for assistance, I started taking online courses and spending all of my weekends studying and catching up on my school work, which had a great impact on my grades and GPA. Then, I began to faithfully attend my local church, where I made wonderful friends who got me out of my shell of insecurities. I also met church leaders who pushed me to be the best that I could be, not just for myself, but for God as well.
