Nursing Care Models a Review
The nursing profession consist of different workflow designs to provide the appropriate care to our patient population. “Nursing models of care are developed to identify and describe nursing care” (Finkelman, 2016). While providing care for our patients it is important to render the appropriate care delivery model according to the type of patients you are serving within the community. They are many different approaches to providing care to patients and the care model design. Some model may include some aspect of the other nursing model depending on the situation. This workload sometimes makes the nurse taking care of the patient overwhelmed and stressed because he/she feels they are the only one involved in the patients care. Nursing toady allows for collaboration with other disciplines to provide optimal care for the patient involved, other staff are added to the health care team reducing the work load on the primary nurse. The RN is not the only one providing care for the patients assigned but he/she remains the primary nurse and is able to make and change the patients plan of care according to their diagnosis. According to Bayton, (2015) Primary nursing model of care delivery is great for building a nurse patient relationship.” This article shows how the implementation of primary care nursing model promotes an ongoing communication between the patient, family and staff involved in the patients care. The patient is always informed of who their nurse would be for the day by the implementation of white boards in the patients rooms. The patent could build a rapport with the staff because they knew who their nurse was going to be for the day. …show more content…

To determine the appropriate model of care and how we can apply them in our nursing practice, we may be able to create a work environment this is conducive to promote healing, patients and staff satisfaction and optimal patient outcomes. Primary care nursing may give the nurse autonomy but it does not provide quality care because of the strain on one nurse. Team nursing provides a collaborative approach which allows each team member to provide care for the patients. This helps decrease the workload on the primary nurse. Nursing care models are created to facilitate structure in nursing care as the profession evolves and work to maximize the care delivery
