Case Study: New York Giants and New York Jets This case study will examine the New York Giants and the New York Jets and how they compete with each other in the New York City area. I will look into the Giants relevant history, statistics on the greater New York City area, what challenges the Giants face to beat out their competition, and other various factors. This will be a difficult case study, because neither team has had dominating seasons as of late, and there are many fans that could be “fair whether fans” and they will only watch their team when they are being successful.
History of the Giants The New York Giants are one of the oldest football teams in the National Football League’s (NFL) history. The NFL was founded in 1922 and the Giants joined the league shortly after it started, in 1925(Citation). The team was bought by Tim Mara, only four years after another team in New York failed, for only $500 (Citation). The Giants were a huge part of what kept the NFL alive, because the NFL needed a big market team(Citation). The Giants proved to be just what the NFL needed and this was proved when they played the Chicago Bears in New York(Citation). The two teams played two games against each other, winning game each, but the most important factor was the 70,000 fans that came

The Giants play their home games at Metlife Stadium, which seats 82,500 fans (Citation). The Giants first game in Metlife stadium did not sell out, which made many wonder if the Giants maybe overpriced their tickets or overestimated the New York market (Citation). Many of the seats that did not sell were club seats which cost up to $550 a game. Giants co-owner, John Mara, said “But we had over 77,000 people on a rainy day” (Citation). This statement proves that the Giants organization is not worried at all about sell out games in the
Football is something as American as apple pie. It is thought of as gritty, physical, and all around fun just as most Americans like to be thought of. For decades the NFL has dominated the world of football. However, Vince McMahon, the founder of the WWF, has introduced a new and controversial professional football league called the XFL. Much of the controversy is about whether the XFL is a force to be reckoned with or just another of McMahon’s clever marketing ploys. Although the XFL’s survival has been questioned by many, it promises to be a league full of the smash-mouth, trash-talking, fan-oriented football every fan deserves.
This is the team that Ruth, Gehrig and Mantle played for. Twenty-seven time world champions. The most valuable sports franchise in history. The ownership pays the top baseball players in the world over $200 million per year to ensure competitive ballgames and victory. They have more Hall of Fame inductees than any other team in history. My family and I are big Giants fans, and one time, we were at a Giants game. At this Giants game, they were losing to the Redskins almost the entire game. At the end, the Giants were losing by six points, with about 5 seconds left to
Despite a dominant 40-10 win against the San Fransisco 49ers, it is not all good news for the Dallas Cowboys looking back on Sunday evening’s showing. The Dallas Cowboy’s lost All-Pro kicker, Dan Bailey, mid game, due to a groin strain in his kicking leg. It was announced this morning that Bailey could be out for several weeks while recovering.
NFL teams are practicing lightly so far this year, training camp is multiple weeks away, and the first preseason game isn't going to be played for months. The new defense has not been completely installed yet and neither has the new offense. We do not know whether the special teams unit will be as effective as it has been the past several seasons because Chip Kelly's practice schedule is no longer in place to provide extra reps and the overall depth chart isn't even being considered at this point because players are currently sporting shorts and t-shirts on the field.
It all started in 1946 when the San Francisco 49ers first began their franchise. In 1950 is when the moved to the National Football League. They earned their name from the gold miners who surged in San Francisco, in 1849, in search for gold so they could start a new life. Their first owner, Anthony J. Morabito, who was from the University of Santa Clara alumnus, had a dream of bringing a football team to the west. He had been moderately successful in the lumber hauling business. To make this happen, Anthony was put in touch with Arch Ward, an editor of the Chicago Tribune. Mr. Ward is credited with the All-American Conference, which was first held in October 1944. Anthony, after a long talk and negotiating with Mr. Ward, was granted a franchise with help from his younger brother, Victor, and partners in his lumbering business, Allen E. Sorrell, and E. J. Turre (“Niner’s history” www.49ersparadise.com).
I stood at the front gate of Fenway park, home of the Boston Red Sox, where the Green Monster stands tall, the year of 2013. As soon as I walked in through the front gate, the warm smell of hot buttery popcorn made my mouth water with comfort. This familiar smell brought me back to the times I went to baseball games with my Dad and grandfather. The spots of spilled soda stains stick and sizzle on the cold hard concrete floors surrounding the stadium. The steam of a freshly boiled hot dog fills my nostrils with delight. A few moments later the umpire had a scratchy voice that emitted through the stadium and announced, “Play Ball”. Then the fans all seated waiting for the game to begin. After a few minutes the 1st inning began and one of the most
players around the NFL. The number of athletes that protested would increase from a couple on each team to nearly all of them. With the only exception being, the Dallas Cowboys. Who as a team took a knee prior to the anthem, but would all stand during it. This was due to the owner Jerry Jones why has said that no player will sit or take a knee on his team or he would cut them, but more on that later. Then there was one other person that would not join his team in protest. That person was Pittsburgh Steelers player Alejandro Villanueva. Who is a former United States Army Ranger.
The New York Yankees lost to St. Louis in the 1926 World Series and came out in 1927 for revenge. (Geisler, 1) The Yankees opened the season on April 12th with an 8-3 victory over the Philadelphia Athletics and they never looked back. (Frommer, 5) The Yankees never fell out of first place after that first day and finished 19 games ahead of Philadelphia who won 91 games respectively. (New York Yankees, 3) An astonishing feat for today's strategic baseball moves, the '27 Yankees went all year without a single roster move. (Geisler, 1) With a tremendous team built by owner, Jacob Ruppert and General Manager, Ed Barrow, the scene was set for a big year. Certainly meeting the New York standards with a record of 110 wins and 44 losses the Yankees had many indiv...
“The Green Bay Packers are a non-profit corporation held by the citizens of Green Bay to run it’s football team”,who I think are the best, arguably are the most storied franchise in the National Football League, were organized on Aug,11, 1919, in the dingy second-floor editorial rooms of the old Green Bay Press-Gazette building, located on Cherry Street in downtown Green Bay. Never imagining what might become of the semipro football team being formed that day, nobody documented who was there or how many were on hand. There had been no announcement of the meeting beforehand, and the Press-Gazette provided no details about it the day after.Whether a full complement of players attended or if it was simply a
In 1971, the Chicago Bears began to play in Soldier Field. The founder of the Chicago Bears, George Halas, never thought Soldier Field would be the permanent field for the Bears. Later in the 1970’s, George Halas announced the team would look into building a stadium in Arlington Heights. “Chicago Mayor Richard Daley stated the team would need to change their name to the ‘Arlington Heights Bears,’ should they move to the suburbs” (Roy Taylor). George Halas was a business man and if the Chicago Bears were...
In the movie “Facing the Giants”, Grant Taylor is the head coach of the Eagles football team. Throughout the movie Grant is constantly tested and put through hard times with his work, family, and faith. At work his team is never winning a game, even though they practice all the time and try their best to win. His position as head coach is being questioned on whether or not he is fit to run a football team and whether or not he can bring the team to state this year. At home him and his wife have been trying to start a family for a couple years with no luck. Everything in their house is breaking down, there is a disgusting smell coming from an unknown source, and his car never works anymore. Between the troubles at home and at work, he finds that his faith is constantly being tested and has even started to lose his faith in God. When he has finally hit rock bottom, he finds hope and faith in reading the bible and trusting in God. Grant develops a new coaching plan to inspire his players to believe in God and trust that he will help them through as long as they believe in themselves and God’s plan. They praise him in success and failure, and eventually win the state championship with the help of God’s grace. Grant gets a raise in his salary, he receives a new truck as a present, and his wife becomes pregnant. Grant realizes that his faith in God has given these amazing things in his life.
Everyone feels the need to belong. Some people find the answer to fulfill that need in sports. In the United States, the go-to sport is football.
