Addy, Interesting post! I enjoy craft beer, and I enjoyed the piece we discussed regarding New Belgium Brewery in a previous class. Their core values have been the backbone of the company, and they have remained true to them. Their strategic planning process and decision making reflects their core values. They have 10 core values with environmental stewardship by honoring the environment, kindling social, environmental, and cultural change, balancing the needs of the company along with the needs of coworkers and their families, trusting each other and committing to authentic relationships and communications, and continuous quality improvement are five values that attract my attention. The company launched an initiative collaborating with the “Lyft”, which will provide free rides for drunk customers [8]. This indicates the amount of dedication the company has towards its customers. It also provides tours to customers across the 12 flagship breweries in the United States [9] and would also help customers with samplers. Any company that values its customers would become a great success and Anheuser Busch has proved this again. It also values its employees making sure every one of them feels like an owner and everybody would work as considering the results to be personal [10]. Starbucks vs Dutch Bros. Every coffee addict knows, the day just does not begin until one’s mouth has had a taste of that glorious, roasted brew. Now, whether one likes a venti iced skinny hazelnut macchiato, sugar-free syrup, extra ice, no whip, the father, the son, and the holy spirit, or simply a cup of Americano, dark; the general consensus is that the combinations are virtually unlimited and the cafes are plenty. However, coffee lovers beware of the hype: Starbucks may seem the prominent choice for a morning cup of joe, but when it comes down to it, Dutch Bros. is the only way to go. As previously mentioned, the combinations are virtually unlimited, something that Starbucks seems to take to heart when comprising their menu options.
Belgium is known for a culture of high-quality beer and this concept was formulated by an electrical engineer from Fort Collins, Colorado. The electrical engineer, Jeff Lebesch, was traveling through Belgium on his fat-tired mountain bike when he envisioned the same high-quality beer in Colorado. Lebesch acquired the special strain of yeast used in Belgium and took it back to his basement in Colorado and the experimentation process was initiated. His friends were the samplers and when they approved the beer it was marketed. In 1991, Lebesch opened the New Belgium Brewing Company (NBB) with his wife, Kim Jordan, as the marketing director. The first beer and continued bestseller, Fat Tire Amber Ale, was named after the bike ride in Belgium. The operation went from a basement to an old railroad depot and then expanded into a custom-built facility in 1995. The custom-built facility included an automatic brew house, quality-assurance labs and technological innovations. NBB offers permanent, seasonal and one-time only beers with a mission to be a lucrative brewery while making their love and talent visible. The company realizes that these relationships are critical for the future success of the company. Being in the brewing industry the policies and publics opinion can influence the changes in future policies and procedures that would affect the industry. Developing and maintaining the relationships with the interest groups as well as the policy makers could prove to be very beneficial to not only the company but the brewing industry as a whole.
The marketing mix, which is basic to any organization, can be considered the ‘controllable’ variables that every business encounters. These controllable variables can be modified based on the uncontrollable variables (external factors found in Environmental Scan) that directly affect business operations. A company focuses on four elements in the marketing mix: Product, Price, Place, and Promotion, which are managed and coordinated through marketing programs in efforts to appeal to their target market. Marketers strive to understand what motivates consumers to purchase certain products. The marketing mix helps to break down some of these questions: What will consumers buy? How much will they spend? For my analysis, I chose to write about Starbucks Coffee Company and its mission statement. Starbucks’ mission statement reads, “To inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time.” We all know that Starbucks has enjoyed a huge amount of growth over the past 10+ years, and it is clear that they are seeing that success because they are putting their mission into action. Reading the mission statement, it’s easy to identify Starbucks’ areas of focus: the human spirit, coffee, and community. The company’s “About Us” web pages align with its mission statement.
Starbucks is considered as one of the world’s most ethical or morally responsible companies because of its corporate culture.
