The Buffalo Sabres were playing the Florida Panthers. Thousands of spectators cheered as Buffalo took a 4-3 lead. The puck flew down the ice to the corner left of goaltender Ryan Miller. Players from both team rushed after the puck, 10 minutes and 4 seconds into the 3rd period Florida forward Olli Jokinen... ... middle of paper ... ...
As a kid, I was born and raised to love the great game of baseball. Many young kids have had dreams to become professional athletes, and achieve prestigious awards/ titles. Like many kids I’ve always dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player. As a younger kid with my head in the clouds, I never really knew what it was like to put my actual blood, sweat, and tears into something I loved, until my worst season I had ever played. This whole story starts in the beginning of my ninth grade baseball season. It started out different from every other year because, of course I was a freshman. This was the first year I had ever practiced with the varsity squad, it was much more difficult, but I still figured I was going to do great. After weeks
As more of my teammates began to show up, I recognized most of them. However, I learned later that if I went on to play in the Spring, this would not be the same exact team I would play with. With only twenty minutes until we began,I put on all of my gear and my dad gave me a thorough warm up. Time seemed to fly by, and before I knew it, everyone was gathered together as positions were being assigned. I was originally overwhelmed with excitement, but as the game drew closer, the joy I had felt was replaced with anxiety. The lacrosse game taking place before ours ended and we entered and took our place on our bench. I recognized the opposing team’s jerseys quickly and identified them as a travel team from our area. Taking one final breath, I rushed into the lacrosse net enjoying my bird’s eye view, unsure of what was to
others hands and then everybody stood in there places. The ref tossed the ball in the air
After thinking about failure, I remember my first year of Peewee hockey, where I had failed to make the “A” team. Every year prior to my first year in Peewees, I had always been placed on the more advanced (higher skill level) hockey team. I worked hard throughout the tryouts and thought I had a good chance to be on the Peewee “A” team. I remember waiting anxiously for the results to be posted online. After several days, the results were posted and my name was listed on the Peewee “B” team. I had failed to make the more advanced team. To this day, I still remember telling my dad that I should just quit hockey and that I just wasn’t good anymore. In this situation, I should have been more like Jim Marshall. Jim Marshall did a good job accepting
When someone thinks of the sport of ice hockey, one of the first things they think of is the fact that fighting is a common occurrence in it. It is almost a guarantee that if you ask someone who is not an avid fan of the sport what their favorite element is, they will say something about the fights. A commonly heard and repeated quote is “I went to a fight the other night, and a hockey game broke out.” However, over the past few years the question of whether or not this component should still be allowed in the game has been a cause for argument and controversy. There are suggested pros and cons for what impact banning fighting from the sport of hockey might have, but for now nothing has been done to change the rules and regulations. The question to look at is, how has fighting in hockey evolved throughout history to get us where we are today, and should it remain in the game because of its history? Or should it be banned because of its history?
When most people hear the word hockey, they think about skating, ice, and a puck. What most people do not think about is running, the blistering heat, and a small orange ball, however, I do. That is because I play dek hockey, not ice, meaning that we run, and our season is never over. Playing hockey is my favorite thing to do, and I have so many fond memories. Some of those memories are, playing hockey at Bill’s Golfland, U.S.A. Ball Hockey Tryouts, and playing at Penn Hills Dek Hockey.
Did you know hockey is one of the hardest sports to learn? One reason it is hard is because of all the rules. Also, you have to play against super stars. Plus, you have to play your position. There are many strategies to score. The last reason hockey is hard is because it is very physical, because it is physical you you need to wear lots of equipment to protect you from getting injured.
We took the field in the second half. We won the face off this time. We went down the field, shot the ball, and the goalie saved it. He threw the ball up to his forward right in front of me, and I stepped up and hit the kid to prevent him from getting the pass and scoring. When I hit him, he fell straight to the ground and I couldn’t see where the ball was. It bounced and went in the net. I was so embarrassed at that point.
The players hit the ice. What was once glistening pristine unmarked ice is now being shredded by newly sharpened blades, etching out the ice with a gritting sound. The warm up begins, sending a bass pounding, electrifying echo throughout the stands. The referee dressed in stripes of black and white, elbows cuffed in a bright hunting orange, blows his small black slightly curved whistle that expels an earsplitting pitch. The players line up as if they were placed and molded by hand into the perfect statue. The black hard rubber puck hits the ice with a thud and they come to life. They dart around the ice’s white surface with blue and red markings buried underneath. Dressed in their attire of a white jersey with a winding tornado on the front,
While it could be debated if Bettman 's theory is correct, there is no denying that the exposure the NHL has gotten, sending and risking their best players to the past five olympics has no transcended into bringing in new fans or higher television viewer ratings.
Life can sometimes best be described as a roller coaster. It has its highs and its lows, but no matter how low someone is everyone has that one place to forget about life’s problems. This place is the Great Neck ice rink for me. Hockey was introduced to me as a kid by a neighborhood friend. I was around 8 years old when I first picked up a hockey stick. Although it would be another month until I was able to use a lefty hockey stick, I knew that this sport would be an essential role in my life. My friend Brian got me into hockey, but as a lefty, he did not have any lefty hockey sticks. This did not draw me away from the sport. It made me take on this challenge to be talented at this sport. Even playing with the wrong sided stick I still was engaged in the games and would proceed to become a New York Rangers fanatic.
When the clock started winding down for halftime I became so nervous but I just knew that my support system wouldn't let me down. As I walked down the field with my escort the crowd yelled so loud and clapped so hard it was overwhelming. Even though I heard loud screams, I still didn't know if I would I become the queen. The man with the microphone called out the winners from 2nd runner up to the queen and I couldn't believe my ears, he called my name for 1st runner up.
Who loves watching the Winter Olympics? Is one of your favourite sports to watch men’s hockey? It may no longer be so because in the 2018 Winter Olympics, all NHL players are not allowed to participate. Professional hockey players from the NHL should be able to participate in the 2018 Winter Olympics. The reasons why they should be able to participate is because NHL players are athletes just the same as others and should be able to represent their country with pride, without the NHL players they may lose many profits and the benefits are greater than the risk of the players going to the NHL.
...slapshot from the point. Two minutes later the puck broke loose from one of the other team's defensman and landed on our most talented player’s stick. He is not only as fast as lightning but can also stick handle around any NHL team blindfolded. He made a quick move to the left, and then to the right. He took the shot which went top shelf on the right side. The second I saw the net move I knew we had done it. The underdog team defeated the 1st ranked team in the state championship game for Missouri high school hockey. An uproar from the mob of people could have been heard from two miles away. I couldn’t believe we had done it. We beat the odds, and took the cup. I felt shivers travel down my bruised and cut body. The hard work did pay off, for we had done it. The tears were flowing like the water dropping from the Niagara Falls. We were State Champions.
